LJ news post: Zero to wank in less than forty comments
[info]krissy shares the exciting news of new V-gifts available on LJ, including free Diet Pepsi MAX V-gifts. (There's also a gratuitous plug for the Diet Pepsi MAX journal themes and mood theme thrown in.)

[info]lezlishae is the first to be upset by this turn of events, but definitely not the last.

Edit: [info]rho wins a shiny copy of the internets with this.

Okay the mood themes I could understand being irked over because they are ads and it was a sneaky way of making paid users see ads in spite of everything but the gifts? Come on- that's totally something up to the person who wastes the money on it. I, for one, would love to send [info]lezlishae one. I think she needs to have a refreshing drink.

I, however, would love that brain in a jar.

There is something incredibly funny about the Diet Pepsi MAX mood theme. Although I was kind of disappointed to see that they were bubbles. I was hoping they would be bottles of Diet Pepsi MAX or something.

I find it especially amusing in light of the recent anorexia wank.

The journal themes are animated? Wow. *holds to style=mine and format=light like dear life*

(Also, OP, you icon. Where is it from? I know I've seen that creature in a movie, but I can't remember which one. o.o)

It's the alien from that McDonald's sponsored E.T. ripoff cinematic classic Mac & Me.

Not exactly animated - there's javascript in them that checks the time and loads the appropriate background (day, twilight/sunrise, night). My computer does the same, as does Gaia now. :)

Rho wins the internet.

Draco moaned as he ejaculated into Harry's mouth, and then rolled over.

"Hey, Harry, could you fetch me some Diet Pepsi Max with zero calories and extra caffeine?"

"Sorry", replied Harry, "but I can't. We're only Early Adopters so they didn't give us any. And besides, I'm too busy starting a petition to get more userpics."

Oh, Livejournal. Less complaining about corporate sponsorship, more free v-gift spamming to see if ten of them = free paid time like the regular v-gifts.

Can we get a jury of LJ staffers to discuss the artistic merit of those sponsored Valentine gifts?

I think everyone is missing a golden opportunity here. You can attach a note to these virtual gifts, right? Why not use the free gifts to send porny little drabbles to all your friends? (They don't have to let the gifts show up on their userinfo.)

Does anyone else find it amusing that people are protesting the Pepsi v-gifts, saying they don't ever want to be forced to see ads like that... by posting Pepsi v-gifts, therefore making everyone who looks at the news profile look at those very ads?

I love how people spend all this time and energy getting riled up over these ads when it takes under a minute to adblock all of them, including the mood theme.

Pepsi also seems to have launched two non-subtle sponsored LJs. Behold!

pepsi2dmax and his girlfriend, <a href="http://pepsibettymaxxx.livejournal.com/>pepsibettymaxx</a>. Brian is a homophobic, "Asian crap" hating college football player. Betty is... retarded, or something. I dunno, reading through those journals SURE makes me want to buy some tasty Pepsi products now! Hot damn! :O
