I was using three examples of citations I've seen in my life: the ones I did in high school, the ones friends used in college, the ones from the MLA used in a small-press magazine I helped proof. (Why three? Because it had a nice rhythm to it.)

Heidi's citations in her fanfiction did not resemble any of those. And, because her "borrowing" from various works was so blatant, she needed to give more credit than "inspired by."
