Heidi was removed from the panel earlier today, and yes, they DID have death threats. Several, in fact. They will not be releasing the statements to the public. The general feeling on their part is that Heidi and all of us have been through enough this week, and that the sooner this is done with the better. I've been given permission from the head of the conference to confirm this. I absolutely agree with them. At this point I think anything that she has done to merit being put in this position is completely, completely unthinkably minor compared to her having received legitimate death threats over this issue. I should also admit that I was immediately skeptical when I read her post, and horrified that she might be inventing something like this. I confirmed the threats independently through the conference head, Amy Tenbrink, who has given me permission to confirm this here. (Reply to this)(Thread)

	That's fair enough, I'd say. I do feel for her, especially with the death threats, and it might remove some stress for her. Thanks for posting this here. In these situations, the organization frequently offers the offender the opportunity to quit before they're fired. It's a courtesy and an attempt to dampen any scandal by making it appear that people are voluntarily taking responsibility for their own actions. If Heidi was receiving death threats, I have to admit that I consider it especially important, because the organization does not want to give any hint that they are rewarding such threats. It was bad enough reading about people yelling at her via AIM and YM, but this? That's beyond crazy. What do we have to do around here? Post a big flashing neon sign on the front of B_P that says 'DO NOT ENGAGE WITH SUBJECT'? Seriously, apparently people really do not get the 'don't troll' rule. Assuming these death threats were made with traceable IPs, I'd really like to hear someone argue that anyone found possessing those IPs should NOT be banned from b_p. Seriously. Anyone? I know that losing access to b_p would be a trifling response to a person who has made an actual death threat, and all serious death threats should be be followed up by criminal charges, buuuut.... I think she has many mockworthy traits, which I have mocked, and I think that on the whole, HP fandom would have a lot better public image without her. Fucking hell, people. I may find plagiarism disgusting, and have been outspoken on the issue for quite some time, but get a fucking clue. She didn't piss in your cheerios, she didn't kick your puppy, and she sure as hell didn't threaten to kill you. She plagiarized and at worse threaten to sue some people. With all these "Plagiarism isn't big enough a mistake to deserve death treats" -posters... I mean, surely people realise she's not getting these threats because "all plagiarists should be killed"? To me it smells more of the sort of... oh you know. Sadistic assholes who have been given the fuel to do something as nasty as death threats. It's like all this commotion has "inspired" them and possibly given them something they can, in their warped minds, use as an excuse. I doubt, if you were to ask these fucktards why they did what they did, the answer probably wouldn't be "because she's a plagiarist" but something along the lines of "for shits and giggles". Point is. I don't think she's getting death threats *for* plagiarising. *Because* she plagiarised and was outed, yes. But that's not the motivation for these anonymous twats.
