odd idea - possible coda to recent events
This may be OT and inappropriate; I didn't think it was, considering the ongoing saga, but if it is, then I apologize and thwap me, please. I get odd ideas when I can't sleep.

The ever lovely [info]puipui said here: Don't worry, Charlotte. If you do end up having to pony up $1000 to MsScribe's charity of choice tomorrow, I'm sure we'd all be happy to organize a whip-around to raise the money for you. XD

I read that, and laughed, and thought, hell, if that bit ends up being true, I'd kick in $10 towards that $1K myself.

If you're thinking the same thing - that if it were true, you'd contribute $10 [or $1 or $5 or whatever] - and it ends up being not true, which is far more likely as far as I'm concerned ... maybe think about popping that $10 over to 4christina.org instead?

CharityGate was one of the ugliest wanks in FW history, the kind of thing that can drain your faith in humanity. It's something I try not to think about. I'd much rather look back on it book-ended with something like this, where exposing one person's maliciousness and lies led to helping someone who really needs it. And if you don't see the fun cosmic twist to it, considering how CharityGate got started, then you're not looking.

I've got no right to ask this, and I'm not meaning to intrude on anybody's platform, and this is of course totally [info]charlottelennox's [awesome] show and I hope she doesn't think this is disrespectful of me. I just had a light bulb moment and thought that, from a karmic sense, it'd be an interesting sort of payoff. That's all.

*dusts off sorry excuse for soapbox and goes back to Insomnia Corner*

Where did the $1,000 challenge thing come up? I can't seem to find its origin.

What a lovely idea, SB!

Just donated $10.00 via Amazon honor system. Unlike PayPal, Amazon guarantees that your name/information will *not* be sent to the recipient, and Christina's family gets to keep more of the money because they have lower fees. Found the link to info here: http://www.4christina.org/DonationsHelp.php.

Will post link to your idea on some of my boards that have been following this saga. Thanks so much for thinking of this--I feel a little better now!

I think now might be a good time to start donating that money to Christina ...

Because we're all off the hook. Except for a certain lying sack of ...

That's a very good point and I just donated. I just wish it was enough to erase the ugliness that was CharityWank. :(

I've been thinking of suggesting something like that, and I'm glad someone did before me!

Now if only I could afford to donate more than a couple dollars. =(

Better idea than writing a post linking all the sociopathic responses from msscribe's friends. (Not that I wasn't tempted just a little, mind.)

I can't afford a donation, but I do need to buy a ton of books, so I've bought them through their Amazon affliate link.

I think this is a fantastic idea, myself. I actually did go over to Christina's site and donated after reading the chapter on Charity Wank, and posted the link in my f-list as well.

Now that I've actually *read* Charity Wank itself, and the screencaps Christina's daughter posted, once I'm gainfully employed again I'll donate more.

This is one of those wonderful ideas that make the world a little bit of a brighter place. I've just donated, and the horrible taste that CharityGate left in my mouth is finally fading away. Thank you for posting this.

You and your soapbox are lovely. :) I've just donated via the Amazon honor system link on the site--what a wonderful way to turn the nastiness into something good.

I read the whole report in horror and after I retold it to my boyfriend, who'd normally barely know of the HP fandom, he put in some money to 4christina.org for us; thank you for this.

Best whip-around ever. It's really kind of heartwarming to see that fandom really does take care of its own sometimes, or at least make an attempt. It makes me feel better about the state of humanity, especially after reading about crap like MsScribe.

This is a great idea, and I've just donated. It's the least I can do, considering that this woman has obviously exhausted every resource available, has multiple health conditions besides cancer (one of which I have myself - Grave's disease), and has had to put up with all this abuse on top of everything else. Thank you for soapboxing. :)
