Yesterday was second anniversary of Deletegate, and the first anniversary of fandom_love. All the comments on this post have me nostalgic. And, it's one of the last wanks [info]bnfshavemorefun posted reported.

Tripzy, a Draco/Hermione 'shipper, decides to send JKR a letter explaining how she got it all wrong.

Such naive bewilderment that anyone could think this was a bad idea, at first, and then such vicious overreaction later on when people pointed out no one can take away your opinion.

Did she ever mail that letter? Anyone know?

I often picture JK's assistants sorting through the fan mail, setting aside only the biggest lolz to actually show her.

If I ever become the ginormous multi-million dollar making super bestselling author of all time, my exact instructions to my minions will be "I only want to see letters from the amusing crazies. Send all the others to the automated autograph machine!" XD

Srsly, though - I wonder what the procedure is as to which letters JKR personally sees.

I actually had that job for a famous scientist. Everytime he was on Nova or in the NY Times we got letters from jails and crazy people. We had a collection of them.

I do that sometimes - I manage my best friend's fan webmail. Oh the nutters we get! I had to write a guidelines section for our Contact Us page because the number of fools and stalkers we were getting were ridiculous, and while it's considerably reduced, we still get:

a) the stalker types
b) the entitlement types (YOU MUST GIVE ME THIS! YOU MUST WRITE ME! YADDA)
c) the types who gripe about the guidelines (look, if you guys would write properly this would not be a problem)

the entertaining ones we long for, dearly.

Ahh, my ship does not wank often, but when it wanks, it wanks.

I suppose D/Hr has a ways to go before it reaches the level of the mother ship of wankery (and we all know what that is), but that was lovely. 'Twas a proud moment for D/Hr wank indeed. *wipes tear*

Oh yeah, that was FUNNY. 'You spoiled the ending! Nothing could POSSIBLY be interestiing or original if my ship doesn't happen!'

But one of my favorite parts of the response to the sinking, in retrospect, is Mad Eyed Mike (crazy Harmoanian) showing up on the D/Hr thread to gloat and say:

"Straight from the author's mouth...Wow, talk about having your ship sunk. Even the Titanic didn't go down that emphatically."

Isn't poetic justice a beautiful thing?

Brilliant! Thanks for the link - this is the wank that first brought me to J_F and Fandom Wank (where I have but lurked ever since). I've been having cravings to read this wank again but Google-fu has been weak and I couldn't find it.

Ah, she so crazy.

I sent that letter to my sister because she didn't believe me that someone would do such a thing.

If she did send it, I would love to have seen Jo's face as she read it. She must have a folder of bad fan letters she pulls out for when a party's getting dull.

This isn’t a small group. There are thousands of people who believe in this ‘ship so strongly that they take the time to create art, writing, web sites, and more for it. We took our ship seriously.

Because shipping is SERIOUS BUSINESS.

Little did we know that she was just the first of a whole new class of HP wankery. I mean, in the last month, I've read about two different groups, one of H/Hr fans and one of really rabid Snapefen, sending JKR "packages" of their letters/evidence/pleas.

I've been shipping my own 'ship peacefully and I'm eternally thankful that the only times I get to become an insider on wanks and fandom scuffles are when I come here.

Thanks for exposing teh crazies for us. I understand it's not an easy job, but you guys are brave. In regards to this wank, this was a trip to read as I'm feeling the emptiness now that Miss Charlotte's ended her most enthralling series and this somewhat filled it.

I love the prose of the letter. "JKR- LOOK AT ME! THE FANDOM ISN'T ABOUT THE MAJORITY OR WHAT YOU WANT TO WRITE! LOOK AT ME! I AM THE FAN THAT COUNTS! I AM NOT BUYING THAT ONE BOOK UNLESS YOU GIVE ME WHAT'S MINE! I NEVER THOUGHT YOU WERE WRITING CHILDREN'S BOOKS BUT AS YOU AREN'T CATERING TO MY NEEDS, I SEE THAT YOU ARE!"

"Shippin'
See the splooge on the keyboard
And a hope that is fading
Hopes whither away
Like the keyboard
I yearn to turn my fingers to truth
I am waiting for the day . . .

Dra-co
Not a sound from the author
Has the bitch lost her memory?
She is smiling alone
In the desk light
The burning pages collect in a bowl
And the to-liet....begins to flush.

Dra-co
All alone in the subtext
I can smile at the pages
Where I see the true him
I remember the time I found that first shippin' clue
Let Herimin-O...live again

Every keyboard
Seems to beat...a fan-alistic warning
Someone posts and
Another letter gets sent
And soon it will be OUR TURN!

Shippin'
I must wait for the subtext
I must think of a new fic
And I musn't give in
When the ship comes
Tonight will be a turn in the tide
And the old books...laid to rest

Burnt out hopes of Ron and her
The stale cold smell of bullshit
The desk light dies, another letter written
Another page is calling

READ ME
It's so easy to see it
All the D/Hr subtext
That is quite plainly there
If you read it
You'll understand what real shippin' is

Look
A new book has begun"

Oka-y. Now that I've murdered that musical. *cough* I remember reading this. Not when it was first posted, but not long after either. Ahhh. The memories.

I have absolutely no idea. She pretty much stopped participating in fandom afterwards. At least on FAP. Made a brief cameo a year later, I think, but didn't mention the letter.

Nothing says sanity like responding to a plea for common sense with this:

Go kill yourself. No one will care. No one loves you. There will be
parties and rejoicing, trust me. Don't you want your family to be happy?
Don't you want your friends to be happy? Yeah, do it for the "friends."
Just take a bottle of pills, it's easy, swallow all of them with a nice
tall class of ice water. Mmm, that tastes good. Then write a letter
saying you knew it was what was best for them, because it was. Sign it,
and put it in a little envelope. There we go. Good job! Then lay back
and wait for it... it won't take long if you threw a couple sleeping pills
into the mix.

Have a good day! =)

Signed:
Tripzy, who didn't read any of your bullshit past the first sentence and
is wondering how long you wasted typing it out.
