So last week I posted about the Archive Of Our Own, which if you missed it is being called AO3 because AOOO sounds like a basset hound. But I didn't really post as a reader. It didn't occur to me because I had just spent several days uploading all of my fanfiction there. (Well, that I still like. I actually do have two Greek mythology fics that I haven't posted there, but the second one is a sequel to the first, which was written in high school and has some gender issues I'm really not proud of.)

Anyway, after all that posting, I had kind of expected people to read my fic, but I hadn't actually gotten around to reading their fic.

And omg you guys, AO3 is great for fic-reading. At least for me.

    AO3 as a reader. )

Anyway. Having said all that, Chapter Seven of Between Here and Now and Forever is posted on:

    Hunh.
One big-ass portion of noodles, meat, and Chinese broccoli at a Thai place = four meals for me. Dinner last night, breakfast today, and dinner today, with enough remaining for either breakfast or lunch tomorrow. [info]goddessgoddess, thank T. again for me, would you? And what was the name of that place? It was yummy.

Thinking of plugging iDoser and drifting off with some aural opium. The annual Coast to Coast JFK special is on tonight, but the prefeed is some bullshit about intelligent design.

Honestly, Kakki is the biggest fangirl I've ever seen. LOL why do I always like the dorky seiyuu?

    Also, omg it's Tager's birthday and the blazblue.jp site has him in an awesome suit. XD;

aaaa I'm totally geared for BJD!Jin and Ragna; I've been going through my fabrics and contemplating how to do their outfits. I mean, I HAVE THE BODIES ALREADY??? I could also technically paint Jin too since I have the head and the temporary eyes (since I ordered EDs for them both today) and aaaaaa okay no. Advent Calendar! Also repainting Septunie's poor Robin. WORK AND SLEEP. D:

okay sometimes i do kinda wish i was unemployed o-orz

i-i feel kinda bad for crow cause he's honestly got a nice look to him and uh lol AXEL IS LIKE THE DOLL EVERYONE LIKES but at least I'm keeping his head and stuff...

Will probably keep Axel's body as is (with the lifemark and stuff) and give it to Jin and put Ragna on Crow's body (since I need to change out the neck attachment anyway--I can also tighten Crow's strings) so that way I can do stuff to the right arm to make it all BUREIBURU and shit. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Now that I looked at the event head from Luts... lol. Why do their event heads always have a weird eye squint? Yet another head to give away though.

YAH PAYMENT RECEIVED woo hoo now comes the wait D:

    Links
Right, links! Have I got a collection for you!

First off, the best thing I've seen all week: Rings Around The World, or The Rings of Earth, a short video on what the Earth would look like if it had rings. It's really good! If we all write in to Barack Obama, do you reckon he'll blow up the moon for us so we can have some rings?

Talking of lobbying, the UK Government is thinking of introducing proposals to cut off accused filesharers without warning or indeed anything approaching due process of law. If you think that's a bad idea, sign this petition! (UK residents/citizens only.)

Meanwhile, over in Minneapolis, you can if you wish go and see A Christmas Carol in Klingon. If I lived there, I'd be almost tempted. :)

This post gets worse, I'm afraid. Much worse. First of all, there is The Meow Mix, which will put the fear of Bast into you for life.

Next, the 30 Most Disturbing Twilight Products. I don't know whether my favourites are the sparkly dildo, the Edward Cullen silhouette wall decal, or Bella's uterus (don't ask).

And finally, awesome multi-fandom sparkly news. For next year's Simpsons Halloween special, they plan to have Lisa fall in love with a vampire who sparkles. As if that wasn't funny enough, the vampire is voiced by none other than... Daniel Radcliffe.

Told you it was awesome. :)

Cat rang bell. I ate food.
Lovely afternoon/evening with [info]goddessgoddess, T., and S. (who turned out to be a cute longhaired fellow in a fetching paisley skirt). We went to Clay Pit for lunch (dodging all the burnt orange turnout on our way downtown); it turned out they have a lunch buffet on Saturdays as well as during the week. That turned out pretty well, they had saag paneer, lamb korma, and vegetable pakora. Stuffed!

After that [info]goddessgoddess made her desire for warbat known, so we went to Sarah's. They're always fun to browse; T. got some rose syrup, [info]goddessgoddess got eight warbat, and I caved and got a packet of honeydew shisha and a little vanilla sugar (which was really cheap!). The lady behind the counter was once more super friendly and chatty, joking about how I got [info]goddessgoddess addicted to warbat and how I should eat more. If I hadn't been so massively stuffed I might have snagged a falafel or two, they're so good there!

Went back to T.'s for lazy-afternooning. There was checking of emails, Facebook, and the like, and it was learned that I cannot use a nipple mouse. There was sharing of warbat. There was cozy napping and the watching of TV, some current shows I didn't recognize, and the first three episodes of Coupling; I had forgotten how deeply I love that show. And how awesome Susan was in the beginning before she got all domesticated.

Eventually dinnertime rolled around. Dinner was chosen with remarkable ease, and we went to a Thai place. I had a Thai iced coffee, which I haven't had in years. S. had one too.Tasty, tasty drinks, those. My entree was a pork and noodle dish, peppery without being actually spicy, that I ate maybe a third of. Yay leftovers! There was also a dessert of some sort that I tried a bite of. Very sweet and sticky. After, Planet K was investigated, and another pipe shop, with discussion of further explorations, but I realized that I was dead on my feet and regretfully said my goodnights.

So now I am doing my night-time catching up, getting loved on by Molly, and discussing the awesomeness that is Discworld with [info]waywardoctagon before collapsing into sleep. With a very full belly.

S-so guys I kinda want to do a Ragna and Jin BJD set? I'm thinking of stripping Crow down and repainting him to be Jin like as he's got what I feel is Jin's coy look and uh. Well I figure I can just rip off Axel's head and buy a Moon mold and mod it slightly and yay Ragna and.

Guys, this is a bad idea.

edit: l-lol i went ahead and did it o-orz
b-bought ED eyes for Jin and Ragna too l-lol
I'm pretty proud though, that I managed NOT to buy full-dolls and just recycle what I got.

Also. It came up with Steph about my plans to cosplay Jin and I guess she got over her cosplay burnout and she's like "goddammit why does noel wear such a short skirt" so I suggested Rachel to her.

She then spent the rest of the night looking up Rachel stuffs, so I might actually have my cosplay partner back again.

my god she'd be a fabulous rachel

Am I supposed to change my filter, or rinse it off and put the old one in :/ ? It says to change it every 3-4 weeks, but as usual, internet advice is different.

Anyway, I got NEW PLANTS today, and spent some time planting them for the Gang. After the initial "OMG! ONOZ!" reaction, they started giving the plants little nips and zipping around curiously, so I take this to mean All Is Forgiven, Giant Hands.

I am happy, too, because they shall have more stuff to poke at.

So, here are my water test results:
    pH: 7.6
    Ammonia: 0
    Nitrite: .25ppm
    Nitrate: 20ppm

I think I should keep an eye on that nitrate especially. I've been using this weekly water additive called EasyBalance that supposedly has "Nitrate Reduction Granules", but I think I'm supposed to have 0 of both nitrate and nitrite.

ETA: After I put that weekly stuff in, the test is now 0ppm nitrite/10 ppm nitrate. Yayyyy~

    It's Saturday, right?
I just finished Unseen Academicals. I love Pepe so very hard.

I have lunch plans with [info]goddessgoddess, T., and their friend S. This is probably a good thing, as my food intake the past few days has consisted of a can of not at all good soup. A meal I can chew would be nice.

Am wearing The Bra That Fits. At present there is only one. I have taken steps to remedy this. It is a front-hook. It kind of has to be. There are eight rows of hooks. Also wearing The Jeans That Fit, courtesy of [info]hcolleen, and a not bad tshirt courtesy of some thrift shop somewhere. Smelly of the day as yet to be decided. I'm thinking Hungry Ghost Moon.

Guys, I totally forgot I had this picture of this INCREDIBLE Persona 2 cosplay of some of the Personae, from Akon XIII. (That's in 2002!) I thought some of you might enjoy it. I wish digital technology was around back then (instead of me relying on disposable cameras) cause HOLY SHITTTTTTTT

You know, looking at the stuff I had, there seemed to be a lot more variety in things people cosplayed? I dunno, maybe I'm just not hip with the new things people are into, but you didn't run around into clones that often.... and just looking at the series, so many different series were represented...

If anyone knows what the hell is up with KIBA, I would love to know. I stopped watching because

    (a) I was pretty sure it was all going to end in tears (see also: Wolf's Rain)
    (b) As each successive episode aired, it had me asking, "What the fuck is going on?!"
    (c) It's kind of derivative, like that Avenger thing about Mars or something and then no one could have kids and WHAT WAS UP WITH THAT SHOW?

KIBA is about a kid named Zed who is kind of an asshat and then he is transported to a Magical World (TM) with magic, where he is still an asshat. He also has a super powerful spirit named Amil Gaoul who is awesome and kills things but mostly it's about Zed and his annoying uke brainwashed friend Noa, who is so incredibly annoying and brainwashed he spends a good deal of time contributing to a false sense of dramatic tension by murdering people because... um, someone told him to? It's kind of like Miaka and Yui, if Miaka was a power-hungry jerkoff with absolutely zero social skills.

But they are BEST FRIENDS AND YET ENEMIES.

It gets to a point where they're constantly introducing various half-explored characters and countries and then something happens and everything explodes, but then for some reason Zed (who goes through 51 episodes and is still, somehow, an asshat) merges with Amil Gaoul or something. I watched a full half of this series and I still have NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON, which I guess happens a lot when you mix together a bunch of things you liked from other cool anime shows but actually have no idea what you are doing.

Stop trying to blow my mind, Japan! It never works!

...And the brown stuff continues impacting with the rotating ocillator.

    For the linkphobic:

In November, 2009, Harlequin Enterprises, Ltd. announced the launch of a new imprint, Harlequin Horizons, for aspiring romance authors. Under normal circumstances, the addition of a new imprint by a major house would be cause for celebration in the professional writing community. Unfortunately, these are not normal circumstances. Harlequin Horizons is a joint venture with Author Solutions, and it is a vanity/subsidy press that relies upon payments and income from aspiring writers to earn profit, rather than sales of books to actual readers.

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc. (SFWA) finds it extremely disappointing that Harlequin has chosen to launch an imprint whose sole purpose appears to be the enrichment of the corporate coffers at the expense of aspiring writers. According to their website, “Now with Harlequin Horizons, more writers have the opportunity to enter the market, hone their skills and achieve the goals that burn in their hearts.”

SFWA calls on Harlequin to openly acknowledge that Harlequin Horizon titles will not be distributed to brick-and-mortar bookstores, thus ensuring that the titles will not be breaking into the real fiction market. SFWA also asks that Harlequin acknowledge that the imprint does not represent a genuine opportunity for aspiring authors to hone their skills, as no editor will be vetting or working on the manuscripts. Further, SFWA believes that work published with Harlequin Horizons may injure writing careers by associating authors’ names with small sales levels reflected by the imprint’s lack of distribution, as well as its emphasis upon income received from writers and not readers. SFWA supports the fundamental principle that writers should be paid for their work, and even those who aspire to professional status and payment ought not to be charged for the privilege of having those aspirations.

Until such time as Harlequin changes course, and returns to a model of legitimately working with authors instead of charging authors for publishing services, SFWA has no choice but to be absolutely clear that NO titles from ANY Harlequin imprint will be counted as qualifying for membership in SFWA. Further, Harlequin should be on notice that while the rules of our annual Nebula Award do not expressly prohibit self-published titles from winning, it is highly unlikely that our membership would ever nominate or vote for a work that was published in this manner.

Already the world’s largest romance publisher, Harlequin should know better than anyone else in the industry the importance of treating authors professionally and with the respect due the craft; Harlequin should have the internal fortitude to resist the lure of easy money taken from aspiring authors who want only to see their work professionally published and may be tempted to believe that this is a legitimate avenue towards those goals.

SFWA does not believe that changing the name of the imprint, or in some other way attempting to disguise the relationship to Harlequin, changes the intention, and calls on Harlequin to do the right thing by immediately discontinuing this imprint and returning to doing business as an advance and royalty paying publisher.

    For the Board of Directors,
    Russell Davis
    President
    SFWA, Inc.

Early morning post of early morning randomness of an early nature.
...Yeaaah, I've been up since 4 am. >_< Sittin' in the office, in the dark, with my door closed, listening to music loudly, waking myself up with Dunkin Donuts coffee and fiddling with my shiny new An Archive of Our My Own settings. Interface is SHINY. I love the shiny. Black text on a white background might not be for everybody but I'll take it over any background that makes the text look nearly unreadably fuzzy, danke kindly. On the other hand, I can see that importation from FF.net is going to require editing, as nearly every online archive hates em-dashes and I have an unrequited love affair with them. This is especially true of Survivors which I may just cut and paste from source and edit in the tags rather than try to comb through it and fix all the em-dashes. I am Nagaina at An Archive of Our Own as well -- yay! -- and the first two things that are up are DGM and Kingdom Hearts related.

Now, if Jadaar and Asric will stop bickering about who gets to be the bigger damn hero when it comes to saving nearly blowing up saving by VIRTUE of blowing something up Booty Bay, the NEXT thing to go up will be WoW-related -- a fandom sadly under-represented on AAoOO thus far. Four fics. And one of them is an AU fusion with -- wait for it! -- Stargate: Atlantis.

Let's have some music, shall we?! )

Well, I now have a job lined up and a roommate moving in starting tonight. I also have three papers due next week. I'm a little bit stressed, and I'm not sure how to calm down. Besides cleaning and exercising that is. Deep breaths, self, deep breaths!

I also picked up Nano this year! Did anyone else? I'm like, four days behind D: For a while I just couldn't concentrate on anything, and I barely wrote. This cold weather just makes me want to curl up in bed and do nothing. Bah!

I admit, the image posted on WoW Ladies last night of Valeera's bodiless head floating where a headed body ought to be, got me thinking and Lorecrafted confirms it. Fare thee well, Aegwynn. You were a bootylicious snarktacular badass old lady and at least two of my characters want to be like you when they grow up, minus the uterus possessed by Sargeras and colossally terrible judgment. Take a few years off and come back as, oh, I dunno, Anduin Wrynn's son or something, marry Thrall and Jaina's daughter, and bring about lasting peace between the Alliance and the Horde. Or something. Just a suggestion.

    FYI ~

Tonight begins what I refer to as Hell Fortnight, that wonderful two weeks when, every goddamn year, Tony's AM dispatcher takes two weeks off for deer camp. I will not be about much at night. Because I'll be going to bed at 9:30 pm. Because I will need to be getting out of bed at 4:30 am and I must be able to function. If I seem somewhat crankier than usual...this would be why.
