I've never done one of these before.  How weird. 

This is in Clairvoyant because, well ... it doesn't seem so much wanky yet as people just spewing ideas out and not listening to each other.

Over on the Yahoo! movie boards, the 300 wank asplodeth.  Someone posts with CAPS LOCK OF RAGE, claiming that the American masses will see the Persians, assume Iranians are the same way, and go rushing into Iran (300-person units, red capes, and underwear optional).  Someone tells us their theory that Xerxes is George W. Bush.  Someone decries the movie as a piece of pro-war propaganda, but interestingly comes at it from the far-right perspective, apparently making the point that Americans should not revel in the military prowess of non-Americans.   Some (hopefully) trolls engage in a, "Iranians are inhuman" discussion.   Another troll posts an "I am an (internet) geneticist and Greeks are monkeys," theory.  Thing.  An internet historian posts that the Persians were a stain on the human race.  (Maybe we're proving the CAPS LOCK OF RAGE right.)  Also, we have the "Greeks were pederasts" thing coming into play, although that one (surprisingly) doesn't seem to have spawned much wank yet.

Oh, really now... Can't we all just sit down and enjoy a spectacle of nearly naked men flexing muscles and weapons at each other?

Also, I enjoy watching people fight over the historical authenticity of a movie based on a comic book. A Frank Miller book.

I liked the 300 comic and I want to watch the movie because of that and because of the practically naked well-formed men.

Seriously. Who can pretend that it's NOT all about the burliness and macho strutting and shit-talking and everybody getting hacked up in chunks? That's what Frank Miller does.

My friends have a plan for this movie. We are going to make a CD of the manliest power metal we can find, and play it on the way to the theater at full blast. Then we are going to watch 300. Then, we are going to eat a rare steak, punch a bear in the face, and sex up a lusty wench with huge boobs.

The wank in Trinityofone's LJ has some really quality classics icons. I'm so sad to see my discipline being used for wank.

Can I suggest some Manowar? They are arguably the manliest band in metal (although I'm not sure they'd be considered power metal). I'd show pictures but I'm lazy. Suffice it to say, they often wear codpieces and lots of leather and other animal skins. Nothing says "manly" like leather chaps and a codpiece.

I'm not even going to click on any of this wank because I'd be so tempted to join in. Normally I'm pretty laid-back, and I can accept the fact that people make bad movies and write terrible comics and are generally total dumbasses.

It's just so hard for me as a Grecophile not to go out and punch babies every time people butcher Greek history in film. Rome I can deal with; Rome deserves it. Greece and Persia do not deserve this abuse. I mean, I hate it when people fuck with history no matter what it is, but after Troy and what Alexander came off as and now 300, I just... I want to bludgeon Frank Miller to death with a sock full of quarters.
