Bravo has Purchased TWOP

And no one has said anything about this on any of the wank comms? This has so much yummy wank potential! Will they still be able to snark? Will they still be able to be evil in their modding practices? Will all leave the boards, save for twelve year olds who post myspace style?

But will they allow Real Housewives of Orange County commentary now? I want Real Housewives commentary!

Wasn't it Bravo and/or Lauri & George's lawyers that got the TWOP boards shut down to begin with?

It's so embarassing admitting that I've been wank-watching this for so long. If you go here: http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/news/columns/article_1616910.php and scroll down, he's got a series of columns on Real Housewives, and the comment sections are full of wank about TWOP and Bravo censoring comments, whose lawyers are assumed to be responsible and why, and lots of nasty nasty family infighting. It's such a trainwreck.

I don't know the specifics, I just know there's a sticky on the forums that says not to post about RH because of lawyers.

It makes me sad because TWoP is where I go after watching a show that sends me into fits of "I can't be the only person WTFing over that!" which that show does on a regular basis.

"Snark" is hip these days. Of course they'll mock their own TV shows; it makes them LyKe SeW KEwLZ.

That was my thought. Given that the folks behind the TV shows have pretty much embraced TWOP - many of them admitting to reading the recaps and following the forums - TWOP hasn't been anything the networks would truly fear for years.

And TWOP doesn't seem all that snarky, either. Just the occasional reciting of "but it's television *without* pity" when someone disagrees with someone else's opinion. I've got such a love/hate relationship with that place-- on one hand, it's the only place to find *any* discussion of a number of obscure reality shows, but on the other, their attitude/elitism/obnoxious modding style drives me batty.

*has issues*

You know, I've been wanting to start a reality comm for a LONG TIME now. I'm all over the web usually looking for stuff on Project Runway, Top Chef, TAR etc.

This might kick my ass to do it, because I'm sick of TWoP's sniviling ass-kissing brand of snark, which isn't. And their forums, oy! I've modded forums for a really long time now, and their idea of modding is draconian at BEST.

So yeah - I may start something over on LJ for grown up reality discussion.

their attitude/elitism/obnoxious modding style drives me batty.

The overzealous modding is probably what drives me most batty about TWoP, and I hated it about FT, too. You can't start a post with "Um" and I think that says it all.

Thank goodness.

Because 'The West Wing' is no longer in production and therefore I no longer frequent TWOP.

If 'In Justice' or '3lbs' had been picked up, I might have been in trouble.

Well, the RHOC has been brought up as a concern...

From "TV Tourist": I am a little a worried about this change. Will freedom of snark really continue in the forums under the reign of Bravo? Take The Real Housewives of OC show for instance. Bravo won't allow any negative comments to be posted on its own boards, and TWoP shut down its thread about the show after getting heat from the participants' lawyers. If Bravo is able to exert the same control it exercises over its own boards, the freedom of snark on TWoP's baords may really be in jeopardy.

So I offer a hesitant congratulations.

And Glark's response: Without going into specifics the only thing I can say about all that was that for us (TWoP) it was a legal issue and not a freedom of snark issue (I like that phrase) -- unfortunately this is one of those times it would be nice to tell the whole story but not practical. So my mind is at ease but I appreciate that you don't have the full scoop on this and it's sorta weird.

Take of it what you will.
