You wrote fanfic about my OC? PLAGIARISM!!!

Axis Powers Hetalia is a tiny, cute little fandom about a Japanese webcomic that features the relationships of several countries's personifications. It's a very sweet and peaceful fandom... but that could potentially change.

If you don't beleive me, scroll down until you reach secret 114 If you're too lazy, here's the exact link

*sits on hands to watch the "RACIST!" "IGNORANT!" "MORON!" screams unfurl and then see if it grows enough to move it to F_W or maybe unfunnybusiness *

Oh, Heroes

A self-described "pseudonymous" source tipped this bawwwesome, bawwwwful wank-in-the-making to me.

I don't watch Heroes, but here is my source's description:
Heroes is kind of not such a great show as in "great show," but more like "trainwreck." And they've been retconning these two characters like whoa in order to justify a romantic story line between the two. And then this picture came out, it's a spoiler for an upcoming episode, and it looks like he killed her."

(I want to take one last moment to remind you that these links discuss spoilers, so know what you're clicking.)

My source then pointed me to the sylarelle community on livejournal, specifically here and here, where people go a little bonkers trying to come up with explanations for the picture, you know, to save their ship. Theories include "they're faking her death!"; "it's a dream sequence!"; and "it's not Kristen Bell, it's Ali Larter!"

I also found this in the mylar_fic community.

Clairvoyant because, well, if the Sylarelle ship sinks, there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth, but also gleeful dancing by other shippers, I guess.

Renowned anime director, Miyazaki Hayao makes some potentially controversial comments about the current Japanese Prime Minister emphasizing his liking for manga, anime/manga/games/etc. as a cultural export, and the dangerous effect of media on Japanese children. Also, the dangers of nationalism. Over at Anime News Network forum, people discuss this. Some agree with Miyazaki, others disagree partly or completely, some people express disappointment in Miyazaki and question the quality of his works, but overall the discussion is quite civil. The harshest comments so far:

"One keeps promoting manga.
One keeps making shitty anime. (...)"

"The political comments are just elitist bs. (...) if he has stated publicly that other people's work in anime is crap, then that definitely qualifies him for a big [ignore] tag."

Nothing too bad, right? Well, according to penguintruth, the thread is full of fanboy outrage and people are making "absurd, baseless accusations" and twisting Miyazaki's words "into a personal attack on them so they can get all riled up for no reason." And as we all know, "Making assumptions about Miyazaki based on a pretty reasonable statement and not supporting those assumptions with anything of substance is what we call "trolling", and it is the result of either willful ignorance or the intent to stir things up needlessly."

Knowing the ANN forums it might be worth keeping an eye on this (unless a mod steps in).

The Twilight movie's reviews are starting to come in, and they look kinda like you'd expect.

Artistically-spelled comments on negative reviews are starting already.

(Also, <strike>I'm seeing mention of a Southpark ep that mocks Twilight?</strike> there's a South Park ep, Ungroundable, devoted to mocking the epidemic of wanna-be vampire kids.)

I usually hate FFR wanks, as they usually make my head go all desky, but this one gets through a full page of comments before people start acting butthurt.

mistress_siana posts a joke rant. Sure, it's somewhat off-topic, but most commenters (in the first couple of pages at least) seem to find it amusing.

However, not everybody is cool with such a political joke.

This is an embarrassment!

I avoid everything political, but I feel compelled to post here.

However, this is a volatile mixture of politics and FFR, so there may actually be more butthurt later on.

ETA: Posted at political_wank.

Anne Rice is a Christian writer? Read on!

Anne Rice. Oh, the wanks that lady has given us has moved on. It turns out that "Rice is reinventing herself in an attempt to build a reputation as a serious Christian writer."

And she even published her memoir, "Called Out of Darkness: A Spiritual Confession,"
And in this new 245-page memoir, Rice presents her former life as vampire writer as that of a soul-searching wanderer in the deserts of atheism; as someone akin to her most famous literary creations -- Lestat, her "dark search engine," Louis the aristocrat-turned-vampire and Egyptian Queen Akasha, "the mother of all vampires."

"To be able to take the tools, the apprenticeship, whatever I learned from being a vampire writer, or whatever I was -- to be able to take those tools now and put them in the service of God is a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful opportunity," she said. "And I hope I can redeem myself in that way. I hope that the Lord will accept the books I am writing now."

The critics, on the other hand, not so impressed with her book:
The New York Times, Christopher Buckley slammed Rice's memoir as "a crashing, mind-numbing bore. This is the literary equivalent of waterboarding."

Her next book will be Jesus as a minister. After all: "I mean, I've made vampires believable to grown women. Now, if I can do that, I can make our Lord Jesus Christ believable to people who've never believed in him. I hope and pray."

You can read the full article here.

The wiki that shall not be named to make an LJ bot.

Posted from Metafandom.

So, it seems FH is going to have a bot to crawl around Livejournal, much like the Fanfiction.net one.

To be fair, the post says the following
The Bot will honour your viewing options, i.e. if you have 'Minimize your journal's inclusion in search engine results. Selecting this option also means that your entries will not be publicized at external sites that have content partnership with LiveJournal' ticked, the Bot will not include you in Fandom History. However, that also means that whilst you might actually like having your journal show up in Google and other similar search engines, etc., in order for your journal not to be included on Fandom History, you do have to have this option ticked. Unfortunately, you can't have it both ways.

TPTB on Fandom History do give an assurance that if someone has had an article created about them and they do not want it, by following the procedure under Help:Article Deletion the article will be removed.

See for yourself.

I foresee much, much wank.

Edit: The Bot is live now, and it seems to have started with fandom_flies. I have personally followed the instructions to have my articles deleted from the wiki, and my wishes were met and the pages were deleted. However, that required me to visit the site, so it's up to you. Also, I wonder if this is FW worthy now?

I Hate you AND your trusted users!

I Hate you AND your trusted users!

Anime-Planet is a site where one can mark, rate or submit anime that they have watched, as well as recommend anime from one series to the next (If you Like Hellsing you might like Gungrave because....). But the wank is in the forums.

You see, A-P is in a transitional faze, and version 3 is being built. So the user Spunky suggests displaying the average rating of an anime between .5 and 5 stars. Draken notes that this has been on Sothis' (The brain behind A-P) to do list for a while, but results will only be tallied from the anime lists of trusted users.

Spunky takes offense, and Sothis asks if Spunky even read the previous thread about this idea, to which Spunky says "No, I don't need to."
Sothis locks the thread and a macro is posted.

Spunky folds and reads the thread he was told to read, and he still disagrees. Draken attempts to explain why they wish for it to just be trusted users.

On page 5 It all just goes downhill.

Anne Rice confesses

Anne Rice has a new book out!

Called Out of Darkness: A Spiritual Confession

I'd try to write something witty, but the title really speaks for itself.

ETA: My apologies - I thought that CW was for wank-that-could-be. Next time, I'll wait for it. Sorry.

We're gonna game like it's 1995 (and localizers could still get away with this crap.)

So, earlier this year, NIS America announced that they were going to port Disgaea: Hour of Darkness and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure to the Nintendo DS late in September, complete with enhanced bonus content. Fans were excited, and all was well... For the Disgaea fans, anyway.

First, it was announced that the DS port of Rhapsody was only going to have the Japanese vocals, where the original PSX version also had English vocals in addition to the original Japanese content. Fans are disappointed, but understanding. <s>Besides, NIS fanboys aren't exactly known for their rampant Angophilia.</s>

Then import-saavy fans found out that the Japanese version of the DS port included "chapters" from another game in the series: Angel's Present (which was never released in North America). NIS America themselves (and this becomes important later) eventually confirmed this on their official page for the English version. Fans were very excited!

September comes and goes, Rhapsody DS comes out on schedule, but there's just one problem: Where was the new content?

After a quick huddle to make sure that it's not just them, fans on GameFAQs and the NISA Boards press NIS America for answers. At first it's assumed to be a glitch in the game, but after weeks of no solid news, and even conflicting news (It's in! It's out! It was translated! It was never translated!), RPGFan comes out with the truth: NIS America actually removed the content entirely from the English translation, due to "localization issues." And then, you know, advertised it, and from all appearances, lied about it when asked.

Oh, and in the midst of all this, the official site mysteriously had the page advertising the additional content removed, and I quote: We're just doing that until we get that sorted out, since we don't want to confuse more people without knowing for sure what's going on."

(But they forgot to take the exclusive character out of the "Characters" section. Oops!)

Consumer outrage and wank seem inevitable, and honestly, probably completely justified in this case.

Edit: Siliconera reports on the missing content, as well as the many other glitches in the DS version.

RPF, the UK government, and Lee Goldberg

The UK is prosecuting some guy for writing rapefic about members of the pop band Girls Aloud.

Lee Goldberg, unsurprisingly, gloats.

Yet his fans do not roundly chime in in agreement.

I, for one, look forward to his response.

Well, they didn't say it was a COMMUNIST plot....

So there was a film called An American Carol that opened this weekend; produced by the same guy who made the Airplane and Naked Gun comedies, and featuring a filmmaker named "Michael Malone" who makes leftist documentaries and wants to abolish July 4th as a national holiday (gee, you think they're parodying anyone?), who gets visited by the ghosts of 3 former presidents and reforms and decides to love America after all.

Well, it only came in ninth in box office returns this weekend; first place in in the box office take was Beverly Hills Chihuahua. So early this week, the film's creators posted their reaction to this development: a statement accusing theaters of fraud.

We have had heard from numerous people across the country that there has been some ticket fraud when buying a ticket for An American Carol this past weekend. Please check your ticket. If you were in fact one of those people that were "mistakenly" sold a ticket for another movie please fill out the form below. Hold on to your ticket so we can have proof.

If you have noticed other irregularities with the theatres in your area please let us know in the comment section below. For instance, Rated R film rating (when in fact we are rated PG-13), posters not being up, not being listed on the marquee, image or focus problems, sound issues, etc.

We are investigating.

What the above link goes to is a Googlecache of that page, which has since been taken down from the official website. But I did find an interesting discussion on the matter here.

...I'm kinda torn, because on the one hand, based on the previews I've seen, it's far more likely that the sales were low because the film probably sucked. But on the other hand -- frankly, I'd be skeptical too if I came in ninth to a talking chihuahua.

WAHHHH! HOW DARE YOU HATE MY SHOW!

A mini-wank growing on ANN that Zac didn't purposely start. *shock* Every new season, ANN has an Anime Preview Guide that has different reviewers watch an episode or two of a new series and give it a review. That also means that show defenders will jump into the forum and call the reviewer an uninformed idiot if they give the episode a bad review. Casey's review of Clannad ~After Story~ is causing the most fuss with the fanboys that the mods had to get involved.

Edit: Zac is now trolling with a Clannad review on his page.

So I read this VG Cats comic and thought, well, that's just begging for wank.

I guess wank happened, because the next comic was this.

I can't find any wank (I try to do the Google thing, but a lot of the hits I get link to forums blocked by my workplace) but there's gotta be some somewhere.

ETA: Am now home with no firewall, woo. Went a-Googling and came up with the following links:

The latest VGcats

Everyone read the latest VG Cats NOW

VG Cats 258: LOOOOOOOOOOOOL

SHOULD TOM ALLOW THIS?!

Ad nauseous.

Welcome to ygo_doujinshi LJ community for sharing, trading info, otaku needs on fan-comic base in Yu-Gi-Oh fandom.

Community was peace, silence and there for a few years until yugithecutie popped up with err his website. *warning: this web can harm your eyesight, so prepare eye bleach, brain bleach and whatever can protect yourselves.

People would be gee if he did not take scan files from another web. And claimed that he scanned them.

Mice, comments deleted, sockpuppet, "OMG LEAVE ME ALONE!!!1111", and would be more after this.

ETA: Comments gone. Some log comments here:

kitsuja
It's funny, you were making noises like you were a respectable person at first, then when someone provides evidence that you stole stuff from them, you go from "Respectable Doujinshi Dealing Man" to "annoying teenager who doesn't want to hear it". YOU were the one saying it was childish, so why, now, have you resorted to these childish means? Namecalling, "oooooohhh, aaaaaahhh...", and essentially "LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU" when the proof-mobile shows up?

Allow me to return in kind.

You must be this mature to ride the internet. Come back when you're older, and stop stealing from the stores on Mansex Avenue.

PS: Posting a fancomic from the interwebs and claiming that you scanned it is -very bad form-. Yes, we know about "Torture". The only way it could be worse is if you claimed you "translated" it into English. Oh, wait.

PPS: It Gets Better! Take a close look at "Me and You at 3017" then "Yu-Gi-Oh! dj - Me at 25 and you at 3017" at each link respectively.

PPPS: Dark Roses is still calling you out on your stealing. Where did the making up happen, now? I'm curious.

Hmmm, this all seems very familiar. Now where did I see this before...?

Oh, wait.

yugithecutie
I scanned them myself. O.O So....okay....???????????

Oh well, I don't care anymore. Go ahead and take credit for the scans I put in. Boy you never let subjects drop. Bye bye.

P.S. - Most of them were donated from fans anyway. So they stay. I cannot tell who is lying or telling the truth. All I know is that most of them are donated, and a lot of them I scanned. I technically I do not care at all. Yes I probably should have checked my sources, but I do not have the time to do so, and I do not visit dark roses very much at all. Ziggy, 123angel, 78horsegirl, tali, yamitenshi, and everyone else has donated all the managas to me. If you wish I will go through and check. But it would just take to long. Yeah that might be wrong, but you were wrong as well. You never lwt subjects go.

Good bye.

neontiger
Actually, I can prove it.

http://darkroses.maisonx.com/yugioh/pha raoh45.jpg <-- My scan.

http://s85.photobucket.com/albums/k52/N eonMouko/?action=view&current=YugithecutiesARATANARUKYOKONSYA4 4.jpg <-- The one you posted before.

You don't need to visit Dark Roses, I've already done it for you. Just look at the bottom and you'll see that it's obvious where you cut out my URL. Or are you suggesting I took the scan, added the bottom, and inserted my URL? Other than the bottom part, which is easy enough to remove, the scans are identical.

Do we really need to play this game every time?

Rather, since it has anti-hotlinking, I'll just post it to photobucket too:

http://s85.photobucket.com/albums/k52/N eonMouko/?action=view&current=pharaoh45.jpg <-- My Scan

yugithecutie
ooo ahhh oooo ahhhh....don't care. Plus dummy I said someone donated them, so I don't care....shoo fly dont bother me. Creep.

ooo ahhh oooo ahhhh....don't care. Plus dummy I said someone donated them, so I don't really care....shoo fly dont bother me. Creep. Don't you know how to read....what a friggin werido! Haha, oh well you dont bother me....and i'm blocking you anyway....bye byeeeeeee!

neontiger
Well, at least you're now admitting you're a thief. That's a big step in the right direction. :)

yugithecutie
You guys don't read. That's not my fault lol...

Dufus...I asked moonlight madien...idiot. That's not going to change...so why don't you read. She lets me post them...lol, have glasses? Well like I said, you two don't bother me anyway. ^___^

nope. read and have glasses. haha! stop being so childish...at least I act my age hehe

Mouse#1 aka yugithecutie
thanks yugi! ur great, just egnore what they say! they are very childish anyway!

Mouse#2
It's pretty pathetic that you've got to delete any evidence that you're a thief and place anonymous comments all the time to cheer yourself up all the time "YugitheCutie".

neontiger
http://s85.photobucket.com/albums/k52/N eonMouko/?action=view&current=pharaoh45.jpg <-- My scan.

http://s85.photobucket.com/albums/k52/N eonMouko/?action=view&current=YugithecutiesARATANARUKYOKONSYA4 4.jpg <-- 'Your' scan.

I did not give you permission to use my scans. I especially did not give you permission to claim you scanned them.

It's rather ironic that you're calling me childish, considering your own behavior. ;) Deleting comments won't do anything, considering I screencapped everything.

Mouse#1 aka yugithecutie
They don't even belong to any of you, so you are both really dumb! Don't sit there and clam them if they don't belong to you in the first place dumb asses. Sure you BOTH scanned them, did you create the doujinshis? NO. Then SHUT THE FUCK UP. You are all children, and personally, if you have a beef with someone neontiger, don't post it for everyone to see, cause it proves what a ass hole you really are. And YugiTheCutie, we understand that you scanned them, and she probably did too, after all THEY ARE THE SAME BOOK. So there for...WHO CARES!! Dark Roses understands this, so why don't you??? I don't think YugiTheCutie cares, but why you other people? Just let it go! I'm getting sick of the:

"MY SCAN, MY SCAN, MY SCAN"

you stupid children.

Plus, a lot of people scan things, and most people just do it for others, what are you trying to prove neontiger? That you created them??? Lol....

Thank you all for suffering with this battle that has been going on and on.

Seriously, this is too dumb.

*hears in the background..."my scan my scan my scan"....*

NOT YOURS.

Mouse#2
Forget to log in again, YugitheCutie?

yugithecutie
What? What are you talking about????? About the person below? I just got on the net.....I didn't even write that! Why the hell would I call myself a ass hole?????????

Mouse#1 aka yugithecutie
oh and by the way i am a BOY!!!!! NOT A GIRL!!!!! ARGGGGGGG!

yugithecutie
You know....I have no clue why your doing that, cause it isn't even me. Why are you copying them?

Mouse#2
I don't recall claiming that you were, <strike>YugitheCutie</strike> "Anonymous". Having trouble keeping logged in, are we?

kakashiluvrgirl aka yugithecutie
That's because it was me.......XD! Loosers. Neontiger, quit being a dumb ass! Loooooosersssssssss!

Mouse#2
...Wow. Just wow. You created a brand spanking new account just to try and prove that you're not trolling yourself as anonymous? I'm flabberghasted. I'm amazed.

I'm flattered.

Thanks for making my day, YugitheCutie. :)

daimera
Right. This account was created within the time-frame of this entire discussion. You can't possibly be serious.

Also, if you're going to pretend to be someone else, at least FEIGN a different typing style.

yugithecutie
STOP IT JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

neontiger
Despite the tone, I have to admit that you have a point. I didn't draw the doujinshi in question, only scanned them in.

The situation got out of hand after the initial contact. When I pointed out that they were claiming scans I made, they threw a fit and accused me of being everything just short of being the Anti-Christ. In the midst of this freak-out, I discovered that YugietheCutie actually not only took scans but also took online fan comics, English ones to boot, and claimed them as well. It basically became an argument against an art thief. Add this in to the feeling that I essentially destroyed a doujinshi I personally bought and paid for so that an art thief could use it and mass-advertise for attention, and I just got a little bit angry.

I apologize to you and anyone else who has been irritated by this exchange. From now on, I'll mention the art theft first and mention only my scans as a passing thought. :)

yugithecutie
I'm sorry you feel that way...sorry. I don't know what to say to you.

I am the terror that flaps in the night! I am the bubblegum that sticks to your shoes and won't ever come off! I am the mysterious stinky smell that ruins your commute to the office! I am Darkwi-

Oh no wait you were talking to someone else. My bad. ;)

It seems all of us are mixing up who are and where we're supposed to post today. <strike>Or maybe it's just you.</strike><strike>

</strike>daimera
A troll under a bridge. We get awesome cable.

yugithecutie
haha! sorry you actually made me laugh!

and i actually did make a new account. lol. i know you are probably all just pulling a prank on me. all of you are the same person lol. Nice joke. You all made my day. Well, I thought I wouls just check my e-mail, i'm bushed. night night. *yawns with speepy yugi eyes...*

haha, i just noticed i caught myself in an error, but it is true. i created kakashiluvrgirl. but i do admit none of the other people are me. so night night.

at least i tell the truth. night.

Mouse#2
Awww... how sweet. I guess it's only right that you should laugh too. After all I'm laughing my ass off at your transparent display of trying to pad your own fragile ego. Yes, yes, just keep telling yourself that there's one evil sentient entity after you. It'll make you sleep better at night.

Or will it? Tune in next time for "As the Attention Whore Deletes <strike>All Evidence Incriminating Her</strike>!"

Only after you get caught, Yugi gal. :)

daimera
All the same person?

Seriously?

You're THAT paranoid?
5,689,192 verse same as the first - Lee Goldberg hates fanfiction

There are certain rules to existence:

The sky is blue.
The grass is green.
Lee Goldberg hates fanfiction.

So surprise surprise, when Dear Author posts about how much Annie Proulx hates fanfiction and right after Ann Somerville states Lee Goldberg, that’s your dogwhistle calling. - Lee Goldberg wades right in (now with added c/p from his post on the subject!).

Choice quotations include -

From "Mouse" - Ann points out the irony of Lee Goldberg too, and it is ironic. He writes novels of other properties that isn’t his idea or his characters to begin with. The difference between him and fanficcers is that he gets paid for his words along with the big glowing stamp of approval from the copyright holders, and they don’t. A reader has to pay to read his words while you get it for free from fandom writers, some of which might be arguable better writers than him.

Does Lee Goldberg take this insult lying down? Oh hell no. He fires back with the witty volley of:

There’s a significant difference. What I do…and other tie-in writers…is the same as being hired to write an episode of a TV series (which I have also done). My MONK books are written with the consent, control and creative involvement of the creator/copyright holder. Fanficton is copyright infringement and is done without the creator/copyright holder’s consent, control or involvement…and often in direct opposition to their wishes.

I’m not saying that my MONK books are creatively any better or worse than Monk fanfiction. But I am not violating the copyright or intellectual property rights of the MONK creators. I didn’t wake up one morning and decide to write MONK books. They came to me. I would never write about someone else’s characters unless I was asked to by the people who created them (or own them). Why? Because they don’t belong to me.

Why shouldn’t the creator/author have control over how THEIR characters and THEIR creation is used?

To sum up: I know I do but I'm allowed so neeners, you hateful little plebe. In fact, my <strike>fanfiction</strike> tie-in novels are better than your shitty fanfictions cause they WANT me to write it! Take that!

He then continues to <strike>beat the dead horse</strike> reiterate that tie-ins and fanfiction are different. Why? Because the original content owner will respect you in the morning.

The difference between fanfic and a tie-in is simple. Let’s use Monk as an example.

A fanficcer wakes up one morning with a burning need to write a story about Monk having sex with Natalie, or Disher, or the fanficcer, or all of them at once, and posts that story on the Internet without asking whether Andy Breckman, the creator of Monk, approves. He doesn’t care whether Andy is offended by the work or is harmed and embarrassed by its dissemination. The fanficcer’s need to play with Andy’s characters is more important than Andy’s legal and creative rights.

A tie-in writer, on the other hand, is selected and hired by Andy to write a Monk story. Andy has absolute control over what that hired writer does with the characters and the world that he created, loves, and has worked very hard to sustain. And Andy profits from the sale of any work based on his creation.

Now you can argue that the “Monk having sex with Natalie” fanfic is better than any of the tie-in work, but that doesn’t change the fact that the fanfic story is done without the consent of the creator of those characters and violates his copyright.

The fact that fanficcers won’t do authors (and rights holders)the simple courtesy of asking for their consent, and abiding by their wishes, before appropriating their characters clearly demonstrates how little respect they have for the creators of the characters and worlds that they love. It demonstrates an outrageous and unsupported sense of entitlement over something they didn’t create and don’t own.

Still rather small as far as Lee Goldberg wanking but it's sure to keep going on and on and on and on and on. Methinks that Lee Goldberg has taken all his profits from writing <strike>fanfiction</strike> tie-in novels and invested them in KY and lube.

ETA: Oh lovely. Now we get Lee Goldberg's thoughts on yaoi. Apologies all around for linking to something that could have been funny but devolved into dickwad which, with Lee Goldberg, is always a viable possibility.

ETA2: Tod Goldberg weighs in and calls the whole thing a fucktardathon.

I'll take a Hellmouth to go

Over at Twisting the Hellmouth, jrabbit announces the following:

"I have applied an update to the site today, the most noticeable effect of which is that the URL of the site is now www.tthfanfic.org. As the observant of you may have noticed, Jinni hasn't been seen in these parts for nearly a year now, and none of the moderators have been in contact with her for over six months. Therefore, to avoid the risk of problems when the domain name comes up for renewal, we've decided to change it over now. If you have any links to the site on your personal web site or Live journal, please update them to point at the new name - it will help people find the site under the new name on search engines."

No wank so far but it might get interesting if Jinni pops up
