Don Cornelius, creator and long-time host of Soul Train was found dead at his home in Sherman Oaks, CA, of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

Soul Train was a big part of my childhood. Saturday Night was appointment TV for me and many MANY other black households up through the late 90s (when the A-Listers stopped appearing). I was getting reacquainted with the show, via reruns on Centric.

May your rest be filled with love, peace and soul, Don.

He'd only been retired for a few weeks too. He wasn't the most polite and I often disagreed with him, but he was a media giant.

[info]harrylovesron: Another cancellation...

(Spoiler alert in the linked article for "Desperate Housewives'" last season finale.)

"Desperate Housewives" to end next May after the show's upcoming eighth season.

Time to move off Wisteria Lane: EW has learned that Desperate Housewives will end its eight-year run on ABC in May. The network is expected to make it official on Sunday, when it meets with the nation’s TV critics in Beverly Hills.

Housewives — which has earned multiple awards since its 2004 premiere, including Emmys for Huffman and Kathryn Joosten– certainly isn’t the most-talked about series on TV right now but it remains a stable player on ABC’s lineup. Though not as competitive as it used to be, the series averaged 11.9 million viewers last season (down from 14.1 million the previous year) and a 3.9 rating among adults 18-49 (down from a 4.9). It’s been averaging a drop of a full ratings point each season over the last three years.

I personally am a little saddened but not shocked; I loved the first 5 seasons but intensely disliked season 6 (especially the way Katherine was written off) and stopped watching. It was fun while it lasted, and I may come back for the finale for old times' sake.

ABC promises to close out both “One Life to Live,” which began on the network in 1968, and “All My Children,” which got its start on ABC in 1970, in a way that honors the viewers and the legacies of the programs.

"Dandy" Don Meredith dead at 72.

Two-time All-American at SMU. Quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys for the first nine years of their existence (including legendary 1967 NFL championship {The "Ice Bowl"}). Most famous for being part of the classic Monday Night Football announce team with Frank Gifford and Howard Cosell. Cosell and Meredith openly disliked each other (and intentionally played up that up on air) and that conflict added a dynamic to the broadcasts that helped make MNF a ratings giant and a pop culture icon.

As a fan of both the Cowboys and MNF, this one hurts
