Subject:Deathtocapslock still doesn't like Pottermore. But JKR is worse for not liking the number 4.
Time:01:01 pm
Mary_j_59 admits on deathtocapslock that she joined Pottermore out of curiosity to see if she'd be sorted into Slytherin and what her wand is, etc. (Is it bad that when I joined Pottermore the other day, that just like Harry I prayed for 'not Slytherin, not Slytherin' precisely because of these losers? I didn't want to be in any house they identified with.)

Mary_j_59 is also cheesed off that JKR doesn't like the number four and that she finds the number 'hard and unforgiving', but she's pleased that Rowling convinced the publishers to keep the imperial measurements.

First comment out of the box is oryx_leucoryx : The number issue is typical Rowling - her personal idiosyncratic preferences become a judgmental statement about the world. And doesn't it remind you of all those times Harry feels the world is mocking him by having weather that doesn't match his mood?

Where did they get the idea that JKR expects the world to not like the number four? It's a personal idiosyncracy, and she probably doesn't even know why she thinks that. She mentioned it precisely because it's a personal idiosyncracy - just a bit of interesting trivia for her fans, the way that when Harry notes that the weather is different to how he feels is a bit of in-universe trivia.

Marionros, meanwhile, runs with the notion of Harry wishing the weather would match his mood being Very Bad: This is, for me, what makes the Potter series so heinous and insidious; not because the lead character is a self-centered jerk who is never allowed to grow but that the author seems to think that the lead character is the bee's knees, the best and the noblest of all, that he really is the center of the Universe and that he is justified in thinking himself ill-served when the wether doesn't comply with his moods.

I know people like that and it seriously creeps me out to see such a worldview being sold as 'the best child lit this century'.

Will someone please tell me what exactly is so 'heinous and insidious' about Harry noticing a few times that the weather doesn't match his mood, or that JKR wrote a main character she didn't hate? Why would she not write a POV character she likes, since she's going to spend significant time (in her case, years) writing from inside his head?

mary_j_59 jumps in to point out that JKR is a BULLY WAH for playing a joke on her sister, that meanie. Oneandthetruth explains the dynamic between JKR and her sister: I think the real problem with JKR's sister is that she's the Aberforth to Jo's Albus, i.e., she doesn't think the sun shines out of Jo's butt. As I know from experience with my own sister, nothing sets a narcissist off more than not kowtowing to them. You can give in because you think they're wonderful, or you can give in because you're afraid to defy them, but you have to give in. The sister's perspicacious remark about Jo indicates she's entirely too insightful about Jo. That means she has to be crushed. If she can't be beaten down directly, then her causes have to be thwarted. It's pure childish spite. I've been subjected to the same crap from my sister--and she's seven years older than I am.

JFC, they are STILL internet diagnosing JKR as an actual narcissist and projectile vomiting their issues all over her. And of course, speaking of projectile vomit issues and narcissism... Marionros also has to motor on with her huge hate-on aimed at JKR herself this time: I'm sure that Little Jo sat brooding in her room in that house, angrily kicking the furniture, often enough, especially after her mum had given her a 'home-haircut', making her look stoopid, and made her wear 'stoopid, boring clothes', or worse, made her wear hand-me-downs', and fantasized about being not really her parents kid at all. No, she was special, not like these boring old fogeys at all! She was a foundling... or a witches' Changeling! That was it! That's why they always made her eat her greens and made her wear stupid clothes and give her stupid haircuts and loving her little sister better than her! She was special and they were not and they were just JELLUS!! And her stoopid maths teacher at school was mean for always picking on her when she was stairing into space instead of at the blackboard! He was just MEAN! And probably an evil sorcerer as well! And everybody hated him! And those who didn't..., well, that was just because THEY were mean and evil as well!!

What is marionros' problem with misspelling the word 'jealous'? What is marionros' problem with misspelling the word 'stupid'? What is marionros' problem with Randomly Capitalising Words? What is marionros' problem with lovingly detailing out huge screeds of how Bad People She Doesn't Like Obviously Think And Feel? What is marionros' problem with flat-out needing to spew out vitriol at the Bad People, Fictional And Real, That She Doesn't Like?

In short? WHAT IS MARIONROS' FUCKING PROBLEM?!

Mary_j_59 agrees with marionros, as does charlottehywd: This is wonderfully said. It's such a breath of fresh air to be able to say these things without being attacked by fans, isn't it? Mary_j_59 takes one last jab by insisting that the Pottermore site has an anti-Slytherin censor, and wonders why she didn't see a single comment that questions canon. (Because it's a fucking official canon site, not a bigger fancier version of your little hate factory comms that cater to your own peculiar issues, that's why. Oh, and mary_j, GTFO of my Pottermore house.)

Whenever they write "stoopid" I cringe, because that's how my mom spells it when she's being self-deprecating about her issues with technology.

I'm hoping none of them get sorted to Slytherin, just for the wank that would result.

If the Pottermore site has an anti-Slytherin censor, then why are the Slytherins ahead in points for the House Cup? I'm surprised these people aren't gloating about it. (I'm also amused that the points are pretty much how I gathered the points always were in the books before Harry showed up.)

Jesus, how can these people be so darned earnest in their fantasy that they somehow own the 'verse JK Rowling created?

Talk about presumptuous twaddle of the highest order. (>_<)

Oh yeah. About that sister thing?

Who, as a teenager or adolescent, hasn't gone to considerable lengths to annoy a sibling, particularly when said sibling seemed rather earnest about something you thought was really quite a bore?

Do you mean marionros, or oneandthetruth? Both of them claim to have sisters who are actual narcissists (there was a thread on the_hms_stfu that nicknamed them 'narcissisters') and who treated them like absolute crap.

A bit more about the Pottermore experience - the sorting quiz was interesting, and I ended up in Ravenclaw, as I expected. But -

That was mary_j_59, and I'm surprised she didn't have an apoplectic meltdown when she didn't get put in Slytherin. *is squinty like icon*

Being this vengeful can't be healthy. Everyone who ever even thought about maybe annoying Mrs Rowling a little bit has to 'get it' somehow. Scary.

- from granatapfelrot.

Anyone else thinking this could work for marionros right about now?

But the smart people are in Ravenclaw. Can't you see it just makes total sense with her superior intellect and everything? Besides everyone knows Ravenclaw is actually in some kind of alliance with Slytherin because they totes know how evil those horrible Gryffindors are and how they oppress the poor woobie Sytherins.(I'm probably remembering it wrong, but I swear I actually saw something like this somewhere years ago.)

I've gotta admit I loled when I read about the #4 thing because I'm an anime geek, the first thing I thought was Japan agrees with you JKR! It also made me really curious about the magical/spiritual qualities of numbers for various cultures of the world. I need to remember to look that up... I never imagined it would cause wank, but with them I am so not surprised. They are going nit pic and whine about every single tiny detail concerning Harry Potter for the rest of their lives.

Marionros really needs to stop creepily spewing her issues all over everyone else. Seriously, Marionros you are telling us a lot more about yourself than your "sister" or JKR, and the info we are getting is ugly as fuck. You need to talk to someone about your issues.

Whenever she revvs up for her vitriolic screeds (seriously, they're like acid rain, killing logic and fact wherever they land), especially ones about Harry, I have to stop myself from posting this in response:

Because as amusing as her reaction might be, the sheer incoherent rage wouldn't be worth it. Having said that, imagine posting that and then comparing the time stamp on her response to see how long it took her to calm down enough to assemble a long screed on how I'm clearly a narcissist for not thinking that her issues are so important and relevant and SRS BSNS.

Marionros couldn't have been a very fun kid. Imagining some fanciful background for yourself, or some mystical connection or secret world, is what most kids do. It's fun! (The big lilac bush in the backyard was perfect for "gates to another world.")

Well, with someone like that inhaling the crazy cakes from the crazy bakery, I definitely have to wonder. Can you imagine being near someone like that for, like, months or years on end? Just randomly flying off into intense rants over weird shit that nobody else thinks twice about - man, I'd be looking for the nearest exit ASAP.

This so much. I really don't get why JKR doing things as a child that nearly every child does has to have some kind of super negative connotations.

I must have been the most horribly "narcissistic," ungrateful, terrible brat child ever because I spent about 90% of my childhood going on epic quest, several without ever leaving the house.

Exactly what I was thinking! And, uh, pretty much every kid who isn't in fact a saint had a least one phase where everything was absolutely horrible and out to get them (eating vegetables, haircuts, whatever). Thing is, most people grow out of that.

Three guesses as to who here didn't, and the first two don't count.

I'd say that was my top crazy this month, but I have a JREF thread on Holocaust denial open in the other tab.

>The number issue is typical Rowling - her personal idiosyncratic preferences become a judgmental statement about the world.

I don't even need to make the "projecting' joke anymore, do I?

I cannot remember a single one. I can, however, recall being an upset teenager and being rather irrational. As teenagers often are.

Okay, is it mean to admit that the first line of this post alone has me feeling like I just won Slytherfen Bingo? XD Seriously, who called it? I knew we'd be seeing the 'I hate HP sooo much I'll never ever contribute to JKR again, and especially not to Pottermore oh wait let me join that last one JUST TO SEE HOW BAD IT IS!!11!1" wanking from this crowd eventually. Lol. Just LOL. Even I haven't gotten around to joining Pottermore yet, and I love the HP series.

Also, I don't even know where to start with the whole Number 4 thing, it took me a minute just to get what the complaining was about. Really? Really?! Is there going to be a meltdown if JKR reveals that 9.5 is her lucky number, or that she loves owls best, or her daughter likes the colours red and gold? (or conversely, that green and silver are her two least favorite colors...although ngl, in JKR's shoes I think I'd've said that long ago even if it was BS, just to watch the implosion..)

Yes, there would be. They've already decided that JKR has to be a malignant narcissist for not showering them with her sweet sweet validation via Snape, so any preference or idiosyncrasy she displays MUST be a moral judgement on her part that she's trying to enforce on the world. The fact that she based the Dursley home on a house she used to live in? Totally proof that she is a Dursley deep down. Because, of course, nobody ever writes what they know or brings their own idiosyncracies to their writing, unless they are a narcissist.
