Well would you look at this?
Premiere magazine has a cover feature on the hobbit actors. Part of the article is scanned at TORn, and from the first page was this:

"Am I straight? Am I gay? Why am I confused?" Monaghan says, imitating his fellow hobbit.

"Why won't Dom touch me anymore?" Astin says.

"Why do I feel this way?" Monaghan echoes.

"Why won't he look at me that way?" Astin whines. "For the first three months, it was constant attention -- and now what?"

"Do you know if Billy's single?" Monaghan recalls Wood saying.

Oh, I think I love those boys. And the reaction's already started at the Pony:

Um....nice article. Dom is making fun of the homosexual rumors again, as are the others. Don't they ever quit?
"Am I straight? Am I gay? Why am I confused?" Dom immitating Elijah

Instead of painting themselves to be homophobic assholes, a simple denial would suffice.

I'm just waiting for the DLR response. So far the tinhats are keeping mum. Maybe this falls under the category of things that will never be spoken about because it doesn't fit the Tinhat Unifying Theory of the Universe?

ETA: Correction. It's begun.

God those pics are great. Love the front cover.
Noticed it was done August 30th, 24 days after Elijah's op. He looked fighting fit in those pics.

The set piece interview made me smile. It's not been set up by the reporter but the celebs use it as a way of getting a message over. Wonder why Elijah didn't take part in it - he left the table for the loo presumably -isn't he comfortable doing this stuff?

This isn't the place to say what I feel about the interview as a whole, they will do what they feel they want to do.
However Sean's long quote confused me somewhat. I'm not bashing him but I would like other people's views privately if necessary.
I'm bi in a gay relationship..and maybe I'm being over sensitive here but bear with me.

quote]"The power of the bonds that we've all talked about to so many different reporters is unimpeachable" Astin says[/quote]

Yep, agree with you there Sean

Quote:

And I think people who are interested in Lord of the Rings have one of two extreme attitudes about it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Erm..okayy..lets see what he says...(don't actually believe there are only 2 attitudes but...)

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One is they just love the idea of the bonds that were forged amongst the cast
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

oh dear god, yes. It's what made the films work so well. This is good Sean.

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The other extreme is this sort of dismissive, out of hand 'It couldn't be that good' 'That's a good story but I'm sure there's a more seedy truth'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pardon? not heard anyone say in all the fansites I've visited, in fact all the interviews I've read that anyone has dismissed the bonds between them...unless we are talking about the rumours which say that some bonds are stronger than others in different ways.

Someone please tell me that Sean isn't linking the gay rumours to 'a more seedy truth' Could it be slash ? But at C4 Sean did say he was ok with that if it didn't hurt anyone.

So I'm confused. Hoping very much Sean's seedy truth is something else entirely.

Hmm... could it be maybe the seedy truth is the Evil Sean propaganda spread by the tinhats themselves? The rumours of rifts between the guys? I do believe it's flown right over Britanon's head.

Reality check, table 1!

Agree with you there, Britanon.

I was thinking about the whole joking attitude about Elijah - that it is very similar to Dom's 'jokes' at C4. Way back in August. I'm also thinking about the warning that there would be things being said that we wouldn't like but that there would be 'reasons to be happy for them.'

Wonder if bringing it up in a joking way was a basic plan to sort of to prepare the public for what will eventually come. And in Premiere it worked but at C4 it didn't?
So now Sean's in on the big Dom and Elijah coming out party? Did y'all change the canon again without telling us? Tsk, tsk...

The first part of that little exchange goes like this:

When Wood excuses himself from the table, Monaghan cocks his head and seizes the moment. "All right. While Elijah's away..." he says, looking over his shoulder as Wood disappears.
"He cried a lot," Astin confides, speaking of Wood's experience spending 15 months shooting the Lord of the Rings trilogy in New Zealand.
"He was always crying," Astin continues as Boyd shakes his head, looking grim. "We were always consoling him."
"He missed his mom. He missed L.A.," agrees Monaghan. "He had a blanket that he forgot."
Astin adds, "He would say, 'I don't think I can make it, you know, I...'"
"'...need you guys, I need YOU,'" Monaghan completes the sentence with a frown.
"'Nobody understands me,'" Astin continues. "Sad, really. Pitiful."

It then continues with the "Am I straight, am I gay" comment...

The article goes on to explain what "taking the piss" out of something means...which, of course, is what our boys are doing.

If there was any ever doubt that they think the rumors are an absolute scream, its gone now (at least in MY mind!)

"Homophobic?" I don't think so!!! Funny as hell??? Yep. God, I love them to pieces.

Any time you mention someone being gay in a joking manner, it automatically makes you a homophobe. Homosexuality is sacred and above all purile attempts at humor. Even though you may insist you are not a homophobe for making jokes, you really are because by joking you are saying that homosexuality is beneath you.

Or something.

(I think the article's great, too.)

Sean's "seedy truth" is what the tinhats have been spinning for AGES - a rift between the hobbits, pitting him against Dom and Elijah, PR making them "act certain ways"...how they are only acting friendly with each other for publicity and etc etc ad nauseum. THAT'S WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT, YOU STUPID BINT!!!! He's talking about the SHIT you all have been SPEWING for the past YEAR AND A HALF!!!!!! Yep. They have a sinister PR plot all worked out in which they make fun of the gay rumor mongers so they can look like total homophobic assholes for several months before the Oscars so none of the academy nominators know they are gay and then they can COME OUT ON THE RED CARPET at the ceremony! Some more responses.

noip tries to say something but doesn't want to do it with conviction:
Anyway, I was looking at that picture of the Premier cover (KC, it's not out in my area, or wasn't as of Thursday, I was in a Barnes and Noble looking, they still had the old one out.) and noticed something that I found interesting. Elijah is the only one with gloves on. Gloves that very conveniently cover the place on his fingers where a ring might be visible, but leave the rest of his fingers free of covering. Am I saying this means anything? Nope. Just that I noticed it and it seemed interesting.

lunaloewin wins the good tinhat minion of the day award for this comment:
That's certainly an interesting interview. I will wait for the rest to form any opinion.

Sure! Know your own mind and all that.

That's about it for the moment, no one else has chimed in yet. They're also quite distracted by some report on DL about 'Dom and the Hot Dog' which although amusing to me in name, is apparently causing some distress. Anyone know the story behind that?

I always notice something when ever an article is posted that goes against the canon. MsA disappears for a short while. Not like we'd get that lucky to see her disappear forever, but she goes away for a while, and then comes back with her usual half baked come back.

I think the boys (with the exception of Elijah, because I really do think he takes all this homo rumor stuff to heart when he really should just laugh at the sillyness of it) are going to ride on this "homo" wank for as long as they can, through the release of the film, into the awards season, and beyond. So welcome ladies to "HOBBITWANK 2004".

2004 should be teh funny yeah.

Found this interesting bit of tinhattery and just had to post:

Strenua

I'm sure Elijah was confused at the set in NZ about his sexuality and Dom took the piss out on it, in a joking and friendly way, not a mean way. That's what I mean with hiding in plain sight.

Yes, kids. You heard it. Strenua actually suggests that Dom was being serious, but nicely, about Elijah when he said that. Elijah was *really* confused about his sexuality while in NZ and honestly didn't know what his orientation was. So Dom's comments in the article were poking fun at Elijah for real.

LMFAO!!!

shakes head

Can people really be so ... I dunno ... tinhatty? I mean, I don't KNOW what Dom meant, but it sure sounded to me like he was taking the piss out of the "rumors" and the hand-writing angsty slash stories written about Dom and Elijah as a couple. On PP and DLR, MsA goes on and on about how Elijah wasn't sure of his orientation while in NZ and probably discovered his gayness while filming and in the proximity of so many hot hot men, like Dom.

Sounds to me like another poke at the tinhats and their funneh!

Am I enjoying this too much?

And he even had his testicles checked by a doctor. Now, why would a "rumored to be gay man" at his age (as he was in NZ...18 to 19 years of age) worry about sterility? That is a question I'd like answered.
One wonders just how "well known" Elijah's one large ball was in Wellington? I mean he is supposed to be the shy type isn't he? I doubt he is all that they say he is, when in the right situations, I bet he just kisses his inhabitions goodbye.

Dom's year from hell...

Anyone catch the part where Dom says his first year in LA was HELL??
You mean, the year he was living with Elijah in the cottage o'LURVE was HELL?? For SHAME, DOM! Surely you don't mean that. Poor Lijah. This was before the "pressure".

Apparently this hell was because he was looking for jobs in LA an not getting them. But..but I thought the only reason he went to LA was to be with Elijah?

What I find funniest is that whoever made the post was like, "They could have just said no instead of mocking it."

Just said no? Is she KIDDING? As if anyone would really believe it if they did. *roll around* I'm sorry, honey, but you just can't teach an old fangirl new tricks.

Besides, even if Sean was insulting people who go for the Sam/Frodo slashness, I think he has every right to be upset by them. Working three years on a project with your best friend, trying to build and display an impeccable bond of friendship, only to have a slew of rabid teenagers come up with, "THERE HOBBBIT LUV IS SO SHORT & HAIRY!!1!!" I'd be damn frustrated, too.

Um....nice article. Dom is making fun of the homosexual rumors again, as are the others. Don't they ever quit?

Um...you mean the way you guys won't quit yammering about them porking each other? Is that the kind of quit you mean?

Someone please tell me that Sean isn't linking the gay rumours to 'a more seedy truth'

Naw, he's talking about the whole "Dom eats fried chicken with the skin on, and the other hobbits let him" rumors.

It's such a treat to watch True BelieversTM scramble to keep their little leaky ships together.
