cygnia's post reminded me: A few years ago we put in a counter we intended to be a breakfast bar, but then Jack decided he likes sunning under the table lamp we put in the corner by the wall. Then his little bed ended up under the lamp, because hey, he's fifteen years old so he's got to be comfortable while he's lounging around on the place where people, in theory, eat. Then somehow his food and water ended up up there too and now yeah, it's the cat's counter. A few months ago a little basket of toy animals appeared at the end of Jack's counter. I don't know where it came from. My mom just retired from teaching and was cleaning out her classroom about that same time, so I guess they must have been hers. But Jack loves them. His favorites are the budgie, the snake and the iguana, which he'll fish out of the basket and bat around. All the rest he pretty much ignores, though he'll give one a slap or a bite if I take it out of the basket and show it to him. And he does not like help playing with them, as evidenced by his "I'll kill you in your sleep" look when I spent fifteen minutes trying to get a picture of him sleeping with his budgie on his head. ( The little ginger cat we just found at the bottom of the basket, though, he's surprisingly tolerant of having me put that one on his head and things. )

December 10th, 2008 evilsqueakers @ 11:29 pm: Miss Teyla, the non-Athosian
I adopted a cat from Craiglist when I moved to my new apartment (supposedly Siamese/Ragdoll - can say Snowshoe instead?). Noelle needed a playmate so I found one for her. Of course, they don't get along. But it's okay, Teyla's adorable. She's figuring out what she wants and funnily enough synchronize sleeps with Noe. She was 15 lbs when I got her and she's probably closer to 13 now. Noe's gaining weight since there's twice the food out, but I'll fix that during school break so they get fed twice a day in small amounts. She loves to sleep near my head, especially when it's cold outside. I loves her a lot. ( more info and 2 pics )

October 25th, 2008 ru_debega @ 04:23 pm: An update
You guys remember those Hemingway kittens I was fostering? Well, Pomme, the boykitten, was adopted out today. I really wanted to keep both of them, but two kittens plus Kaizoku was too many cats, and I realized that I would have to part with one. Pomme being the sweeter and friendlier of the two, he was the natural choice for adoption. Bijou, while still a sweetheart, is much shyer, and a kitten that bounces up to you is much more likely to get adopted than a kitten who cringes and cries. So I contacted a local nonprofit shelter and explained the situation; that I had an adorable kitten who was fixed, had all his shots, but for whom I simply could not find a home. I told them I would keep him until a home was found, he just needed some publicity. It took a little back and forth, but eventually they got what I was saying, and agreed to let me put him up for adoption through their organization. I was warned repeatedly that it was unlikely he'd find anyone, it could be months before he was adopted, etc. etc. etc. I told them I understood, and that I was not interested in getting rid of the cat so much as I was making sure he went to someone who would love the little doofus as much as I did. Pomme went out today for the first time, and less than two hours later, he was adopted. A lovely family of five saw him and fell in instant love. Adoption papers were signed, adoption fees were paid, and Pomme went home with them. I'm very happy, but it's also a little bittersweet--I had him for six months, bottle-feeding and socializing him, so he was in a very real way, my baby. Now he's someone else's baby, and I hope to hell they spoil him rotten, because he deserves it. Ugh, I can never foster again. It's just too sad to say good-bye. But there are times that one must. :C Bye-bye, Pomme. Have a good life. I'll miss you. (Please ease my pain! Share your own foster/adoption stories <3 It'll make me feel better about giving him up...?)

July 24th, 2008 sithwitch13 @ 02:10 pm: Kitties need help! Also, a video.
Cleared with xturtle, and crossposted from my Livejournal: ( Calling Texas-area cat lovers and people with friends in East Texas! )Also, I'm at work and lack pictures of my kitties, but have a video of Tonks the 'tard kitty chasing his tail. He's our possibly brain-damaged rescue cat--we took him in after a friend found him dazed and bleeding on the side of the road when he was maybe five or six weeks old. He's adorable, dumber than a pile of rocks, and we thought he was a girl for a month (because seriously, if your friend continues to call the cat "she" after it's been to the vet twice, you kinda don't feel the need to double-check, right?) Edit: Aha! I do have access to pictures of both of my cats from here! Click here for pictures of Operation: Catbath!
July 21st, 2008 melannen @ 12:02 am: Kittens are helping!
I want to start by making it clear that I don't have any cats. I am free and unfettered. ...the four housemates' cats I live with beg to disagree, however. Especially Yzma. This is Yzma: Yzma has quite a lot in common, personality-wise, with her namesake. She is also convinced that, while she may not be my cat, I am her person. Last month I went to a slash con for four days. Yzma apparently missed me so much that ( She had to help me unpack. )Current Mood: Unrepentant Current Music: the ballad of barry allen

So I went on vacation to Dahab, a little town on the Red Sea, and was pleasantly surprised when I found this cat family in the place we stayed at. ( Five kitties under the cut )They were all very friendly and playful; I wanted to kidnap the orange and grey ones.

So I got my DSLR earlier today in the mail and decided to snap a pic of my cat Noelle. All her really cute pics are on the external hard drive across the room. Too far to walk in my opinion so these will have to do. ( Miss Noelle )
