[i]deliciouschaos: ugh, headaches

Headaches and determination to get v. v. close to finishing the first 2/3rds of my thesis tonight are not compatible.

Why, then, am I playing FFX? Actually...that's a good question. Probably because the cutscenes from this part are kind of funny. )

...headache still exists. CURSES.

WHY ARE A BIRD AND A DOG HAVING SEX?

I don't know why I read any of the forum posts, it's like watching a particularly dimwitted Dalmation run into a sliding glass door.

And then get up.

And run into the same door again.

Uhhh... I don't think that'll ever be ready for a "full wank post", there, Junior.

A troll posting about the "Rape of Nanking & the Holocaust & the Hiroshima bombing". Yes. That is PRIME f_w material. Posting it will not result in anyone sitting around their computer making horrified D: faces at all.

What the fucking fuck?

[i]deliciouschaos: sometimes this game is kind of awesomely fucked up.

I think the fact that the word "nanoparticles" makes me want to shriek and rend my hair is a sign that we are actually living in the future.

I have read the same damn introduction to eighty billion different papers and I vowed to never write the same thing...and then realized I kind of had to. Anyway, more FFX wittering. )

Just got my cxdddddvvvvvvvvvvvvvbf

Ahem. Molly decided it was cuddle time.

As I was saying, I just got my order from ZOMGSmells. I've only just heard of them through [info]evil_enablers, and they had some interesting-sounding stuff, so while I was on my Post-Moving Surplus Spending Spree (now over, but not without the acquisition of bookshelves, a small dresser, a toolkit, and other less practical durable goods) I picked up a few things. I'm skin-testing Love Durian right now. Banana in the vial, turning to pineapple-banana-vanilla on my skin. Pleasant, but not my thing. A shame, I'd get a kick out of wearing a durian-themed perfume (that thankfully smells nothing like an actual durian, but does call to mind aficianados' raves about the flavor). I've just sniffed the others in the vial, but they all seem very faithful to their descriptions.Tom Kha especially is very true-to-concept. I am especially looking forward to testing Spacebat and Heaven and Earth, as they seem to be the most complex of the scents I got.

Certainly not going to give BPAL or Conjure Oils a run for their money, but I'll probably try more of their stuff if the others hold up to a skin test.

Oh, that's what I need. A complete collection of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I guess the only thing is that I'm not actually crazy about DVDs. DVD menus vary wildly in terms of usability and prettiness and extra features, and sometimes they have unskippable commercials and crap, and only a couple episodes fit on one disk. I'm used to all my episodes being easily watchable and swappable on my PC >___>

I know a lot of people like the new Star Trek movie, with its Zachary Quinto and that other dude and the boobies and the iPod Enterprise, but I just... bleh. Sure, the movies aren't always about what the TV shows were about (exploring space! making contact with aliens!), but they also weren't so slick and crass.

...I really hated boobiecaptain!Kirk. Him and his stupid eyebrows. GAHHHH

Maybe my StarTrekpinions just differ a little from the norm. I liked Voyager overall (why does it get so much hate?), I liked the first movie and its scenery porn shots, I liked Voyage Home (to all those who whined that it had an environmentalist message and it was all about saving the whales, FUCK YOU I like whales and I liked the movie and SAN FRANCISCO -- I was BORN there), I liked but wasn't totally zomg blown away by Wrath of Khan.

Anyway, TNG is my favorite series and it occurs to me that I have never had a Starfleet uniform. WHAT

FFX was really the perfect choice for this week. 100% brain candy, and it's a game that I will actually put down because I've had enough for one sitting as opposed to playing until I am drooling faintly. (Mostly. Towards the end of the game I will spend six hours at a time going BUTTERFLIES BUTTERFLIES I WILL HAVE THEM ALL, but now is not that time.)

Things are starting to get complicated here in plot-land. )

Possibly this is less of a mocking recap and more of "things I wish Tidus had actually said".

Daylight savings time in the fall is awesome. Daylight savings time in the spring is not.

In other news, I have to go back to the mechanic this week (I sat there for FOUR HOURS this past weekend) to get a sensor replaced. They couldn't get it off last time. Apparently, it will take "half a day". That's great, car. That's just great. I actually wanted to look at apartments and stuff that does not involve getting my car fixed.

My birthday is next month. I feel like I should get myself something, but what?

GUESS WHAT

I actually had good luck on a pickup team yesterday, and now Zouichi is level 32! Hail of Bullet, yay!

[i]atalantapendrag: All the comforts of home

I have a wonderfully comfortable patio chair, and I am lounging in it while my cats sleep in the sun. I just had an extremely late lunch of lemongrass-coconut chicken with mixed grain pilaf. I've got a nice cup of iced tea with skull & crossbones ice"cubes". I have a brand new signed copy of Kage Baker's Not Less Than Gods *wibble* (just started in on it and oh, oh, so far it is a delight!). I was able, with some difficulty, to get the new maneki neko charm on my cellphone. The cashiers at PetSmart and Target were both good-natured and friendly, and I think one of the people in the office genuinely likes me. I've pretty much spent my post-moving-huge-surplus money, but most of it has been on solid things that will make this a home instead of just a roof over my head. I even have a creative project in the works.

I'm not used to feeling calm and happy. It's sort of confusing.

Oooookay, so I've watched one episode of Avatar. I'm aware that pilot episodes aren't necessarily reflective of the series as a whole.

It was okay. Not great, not terrible.

[i]atalantapendrag: I want a Shamrock Shake!

But they are not to be had around here.

Today is the 8th anniversary of my falling in love with a tiny, scruffy-looking one-eyed kitten. Now she is a big floofy cat. Today she has already amused me by getting lost in the walk-in closet (while the door was open). I love you, Anya, my sweet silly furball.

It's chilly right now but it's supposed to get to around 70 today so this afternoon I am going to take another shot at going to the shops. As per [info]hcolleen's excellent suggestion, I am going to look at modest toolkits instead of just getting a screwdriver. If I can't find one I think is right, I found one on Amazon that would fit the bill.

So I'm not starting a new game of FFXII. I am being good. FFX, on the other hand...

Also, I've noticed that the music is pretty FFVII-esque in places. In the light of that one article I read about the connections between FFX-2 and FFVII, I am afear'd.

I mock FFX because I love. Also, because it deserves it. )

I would like to reiterate that this is why I love One Piece.

I am debating whether or not to watch Avatar (TLA, not the one with the furries). On one hand, two or so people have personally recommended it to me. OTOH, one of those people was one of those jerkwad mansplainer Firefly fans (browncoats?). Also, I think the art looks kind of dumb (except for those icons of Toph I see floating around). Some people on F_W have raved up and down about the it, though. And then there's the movie racefail. Hmm.

RECOMMENDATIONS, ANYONE? ANYTHING THAT MIGHT INSPIRE POSTS OF FROTHING RAGE OR BOUNDLESS GLEE?

[i]atalantapendrag: If it's tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

There are some awesome-sounding specials at Frank today, but there is no way I'm going to elbow my way through a crowd of out-of-town SXSW hipsters. Anyway, it seems to have stopped raining for now, but it may well start up again. I'm not even going to PetSmart, the bank, and Target, let alone drag myself all the way downtown.

Bummed that I wasn't able to get that phillips head screwdriver yesterday. Putting together the dresser would have been a good thing to do today. It's possible my little flathead screwdriver might work, but it's not worth risking the downswing I'd take from frustration if it didn't.

Feeling fairly decent except for a bit of a headache, but rainy weather usually gives me headaches. Time to check the mail; hope there's something good.

[i]atalantapendrag: Another lazy afternoon

Nope, not enough energy to go out to the shops again, but I did do more unpacking (and found some more things I'd been trying to locate). Also took out a bunch of trash. Molly was very good and didn't make me chase her with either load of trashor when I fetched the mail, so it is time for a nice long stretch of Patio Time. Some annoying loud music from the neighbors :( But there is sun for the kitties and the weather is lovely.

Cool thing I got in the mail: a box of miracle fruit tablets! I need to get some stuff to try it with.
