Zombies to infect the comic book worlds of GI Joe, Transformers, Star Trek and Ghostbusters
At NYCC 2010, IDW announced INFESTATION! Starting in January 2011, INFESTATION will infect STAR TREK, GHOSTBUSTERS, TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE comics with zombies, zombies, and more zombies. To help create this multi-dimensional saga, IDW is teaming up with fan-favorite writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning (The Thanos Imperative, Legion of Super-Heroes) and artist David Messina (TRUE BLOOD).

“This is definitely one of those ‘there’s no way they’ll ever do this’ kind of events,” said IDW’s Chief Creative Officer Chris Ryall. “But not only are we doing something fans never thought they’d see, we’re doing it in a way that should confound and exceed their expectations. And doing it with real pros like Abnett and Lanning just makes it that much sweeter, especially knowing what they’ve got planned as a follow-up to this event.”

Setting the stage for this massive event, Abnett and Lanning will pen INFESTATION #1, launching in January 2011. This initial 32-page story begins in IDW’s own ZOMBIES VS. ROBOTS universe, where something goes terribly wrong and ultimately infests the worlds of TRANSFORMERS, STAR TREK, G.I. JOE, and GHOSTBUSTERS with zombies and infected robots. From there, the story spins ferociously into each of the four properties throughout February and March, and culminates in April’s bombastic finale, INFESTATION #2.

...“We’ve found a way to involve all of these diverse titles in a massive storyline that has ties all the way back to the early days of IDW,” continued Ryall. “I think fans will be amazed by what we’ve pulled together here, as well as the stories that will come out of this once-in-my-lifetime event.”

Cannibalism has been a thought that drives me crazy for some time now. Creatures wandering around eating brains? No thanks. If I think about it for too long I will have nightmares.

If they did something else with zombies I might be interested, but this, not really.

What's weird is that I can stand many types of gore in movies, but brains is one of the types I draw the line at. Which causes much confusion and not getting it from my family, because obviously if you like one gory movie you like them all. *facepalm*

Oy, like my friend who tried to convince me that if I didn't mind the gore in Silent Hill I couldn't say I didn't want to watch Dexter.

I never did watch Dexter, but as I understand it they're really not very similar.

...really not. I can totally see being fine with one and not the other. Although there's not all that much gore in Dexter- comparatively, anyway. You do see a lot of dead bodies that have been cut up, but more than that there's a lot that's implied, and sometimes that's worse than just flat out seeing the horrible thing that's coming at you. (Although not always. I still hate those horrible monster children in SH1. GET OFF MY FUCKING LEGS DAMN YOU.)

I'm really sensitive to gory violence and people in pain, so the scene those damn movies always have where someone gets eaten alive, even just thinking about them, always make me feel the need to go do something else very quickly. And I just find the concept of the world ending in this awful, violent way where it's pretty much inevitable that you're going to die horribly really upsetting.

The "Thriller" video is about all the zombie I can take, and even that has parts I know to skip past quick when I get in the mood to watch it.

Yeah.

I feel like a bit of a hypocrite for starting the "zombies suck!" thread because not only are zombies canon in my current fandom of choice, if it hadn't been for zombies, the whole damn canon would never have happened the way it did. I could stan and say "our zombies are different!", but at the end of the day, they're still zombies. (And I hate the damn zombie levels like burning. Haaaaate. Thank you, newest game, for being Flood-free.)

But okay, I'll stan for Halo long enough to say that its zombies aren't mindless, and while I'm glad they lose in the end, their leader does make an interesting case for his side. Regular zombies usually really, really bother me-- not at the level of phobia, just major squickage-- and I still can't look close-up at a Flood combat form, but I'll give the franchise props for putting a new spin on them.

Wow, we sound exactly alike on this point - I got so upset watching Shaun of the Dead that I could barely watch the end of it (which I didn't even find funny). I really can't even deal with watching that sort of thing. It all seems pretty fucked up to me and I pretty much avoid it at all costs. It's actually difficult for me to get past it in a lot of stuff, so I miss out on many movies "in case" something might be in there. With this "genre" though, it's so bad. My skin crawls. I can't stomach the summaries I get from other people on the movies either. You are not alone. I feel the exact same way.
