Smell Like a Monster
Grover talks about the word "on".

LOL!

I loved Sesame Street as a kid, but I don't remember it being that cool!

I think it's just that as a kid, these references go over your head.

I second this. I remember loving Cereal Girl when I was a kid, and it wasn't until years later that I realized it was a Madonna filk--and then I laughed my ass off at the dog yelping.

I remember loving the Cookie Monster as "Alistair Cookie" , host of Monsterpiece Theatre. Yeah, I didn't get the reference either. ;)

Ahahahaha! And Grover doing the 39 steps, and Grover and Herry doing Chariots of Fur!

"Good even-ing, and welcome to Monsterpiece Theatre. Me Alistair Cookie." God, how could I have forgotten this one? And I even got it at the time, because I often saw the opening of Masterpiece Theatre as a kid, though I never watched the actual episode beyond Alistair Cooke's greeting.

I don't remember the "Chariots of Fur" thing (I was too old for Sesame Street by the time Chariots of FIre came out). I do remember Grover as the waiter who couldn't get anything right, LOL.

Elmo is terrifying. I'll take Grover and his "NEAR .... far!" bit any day of the week. XD

Around around around around

My sister and I made ourselves practically sick with that record.

I adored Grover. I don't get Elmo. Cookie Monster scared the HELL out of me as a kid.

Until Elmo stars in anything as awesome as The Monster at the End of This Book, I will always agree.

There's a sequel to The Monster at the End of This Book where Elmo costars with Grover. It's not the worst thing in the world.

Me too! I guess he's over exposed or something? I haven't payed any attention to ST in years, but I still hear a lot of complaining about Elmo.

I think it all started with the Tickle Me Elmo craze. And I believe he's gotten more focus in recent years than some of the older characters, including Grover.

I think for some people, the character is probably representative of the shift in the show's demographics from a target age of five to a target age of three.

Exactly - so they remember the show before the changeover, and of course entertainment aimed at kindergartners is a lot more accessible to adults than entertainment aimed at toddlers. Sort of like the difference between The Velveteen Rabbit and Spot the Dog.

Aw, me too. :)

Of course, it helps that I still have my Elmo stuffed toy in a prominent place in my room, as it's the last thing my grandpa ever gave me. But I've always loved Elmo. <3

Grover's been the bestest on Sesame Street since he first threatened to wubba those who would wubba him. This is merely further evidence.

Minus side - wtf people trolling the comments on a Sesame Street video?

Plus side - this *amazing* response:

JustRandom1257

Look at your comment. Back to mine. Back to yours NOW BACK TO MINE. Sadly, it isn't mine. But if you stopped trolling and started posting legitimate crap it could LOOK like mine. Look down, back up, where are you? You're scrolling through comments, finding the ones that your comment could look like. Back at mine, what is it? It's a highly effective counter-troll. Look again, MY COMMENT IS NOW DIAMONDS.

Anything is possible when you think before you comment or post.

I'm on a computer.

This is fantastic. And yes, Grover > Elmo, my 21-month-old daughter's opinion notwithstanding. I'm working on getting her to at least prefer Count von Count to Elmo, with some success so far. She can do the "Ah ah ah!" laugh quite well. We're practicing for Halloween.
