Two more fandom-related March Madnesses
Round 3 of Mix March Madness 2012 Webcomics Tournament–Vote Now!

Girl Genius is was getting creamed--again (but is now winning thanks to [info]freezer in comments for the correction). Krosp is still no longer displeased.

Choose even more of the worst science fiction movies ever: The Happening Vs. Pluto Nash

Other stinkers include The Last Airbender (vs. Bio Dome) and Battlefield Earth (vs. Santa Claus Conquers the Martians).

Odd... When I voted, it said GG was winning nearly three-to-one. (As it should be. I mean, GG vs. Dinosaur Comics SHOULD be a rout!)

It was losing yesterday. Just the same, thanks for voting and thanks for reporting that what I wrote was wrong. This is one case where I'm glad to be incorrect.

And speaking of the movie poll...

Eff everybody who voted for Santa Claus Conquers The Martians over Battlefield Earth. SCCTM. IS. AWESOME. And I say this not just as a devoted MSTie.

Agreed. It had a real charm to it. BE not so much.

Seconding the sentiment; not only does Santa Claus Conquers the Martians have considerable Narm Charm--it's a holiday favorite at my sister's house--but I'm inclined on principle to cut quirky backyard-budget cult and indie films a lot more slack than relentlessly marketed would-be blockbusters that blow nine-figure budgets achieving a similar crudeness and implausibility.

(Glad to see The Last Airbender still in the running; I wonder if the poll's definition of "science fiction" would admit enough fantasy to include The Seeker: The Dark is Rising--whose approach, like that of TLA, consisted of treating all the fandom's worst-case scenarios as a to-do list.)

Exactly. It's heart was in the right place it's budget and writing...not so much.

I'm sorry Dead Winter didn't it past the first round. Not actually surprised, but it would've made me happy if it had.

I'm surprised Darths and Droids is doing as well as it is against Penny Arcade.

Also, I know absolutely nothing about Unsounded, but they're running against Looking for Group The Richard Show, and that's good enough for me.

Same here. I also know nothing about Dreamland Chronicles, but I'll gladly vote for it over Least I could Do.

Also, the fact that xkcd is crushing VG Cats makes me happier than is probably healthy.

That's one match-up that I had to sit out, because Least I could Do is awful offensive garbage but Dreamland Chronicles more actively annoys me just because of the difference in time I committed to it. At least I could see LICD for what it was right away and get on with ignoring it. I put a lot more time into DC before finally accepting (after a few updates where I actually thought the creator had gone on vacation that week because the pages were so samey that I honestly didn't notice they'd changed... in the middle of what was supposed to be an action scene) that however pretty and obviously full of effort it could be it bored the hell out of me.

I'm voting the same way regarding those particular comics.

Surprised too, although it sort of makes sense.
If you think about it, Darth & Droids is easy to get into and you don't have to know everything about tabletop rpgs or star wars to get into it. Meanwhile, if you don't read the authors' blog and/or keep up with every video game news, good luck getting the jokes on Penny Arcade...

Spacehunter is not on the list. Neither is Plan 9. SpiderMan 3 was way better than both.

I'm not really feeling the "bad movie" vibe, here. (Well, okay: Battlefield Earth, BioDome, and Highlander II totally deserve to be there. Some of the others? Not even close.)
