All the while it will stare blankly at you with it's soulless, non-goat eyes.

Now you have me thinking of Frank as a chimera from FullMetal Alchemist (hence the icon) or a muttation from The Hunter Games.

I remember when dreamwidth got started a lot of people made the compelling argument that most fans were too comfortable on lj to move. I like dreamwidth, but decided this was probably true, and came to terms with most of my fannish communities staying on lj.

And then lj started making itself actively uncomfortable for fandom to the extent that moving to dw was less effort than working around their changes!

apparently the frog will notice it's being boiled, if you're obnoxious enough about it!

(the advent of facebook, twitter, tumblr et al also helped reduce the general moment of inertia for ordinary bloggers/social networkers.)

I had to explain that little metaphor to Ann once (specifying the whole time that it doesn't actually work like that, a frog'll notice really fast) and she was silent and then said, in horror: "WHO EVEN THINKS OF THAT SHIT"

Ahh, good times. Good times.

The last link isn't working for me.

At least I'll have more of a reason to use DW now, besides fic backups, and my one and only fellow, current fandom obsessie fandom friend.

The anti-DW anon/anons at the LJ announcement are kind of amusing, especially the "It's so sad people can't just except changes" anon.

Seriously.
It's not change, it's that I literally cannot post comments/replies/posts OR select an icon unless I have ?style=mine working and if I understand correctly the s2 layouts are soon to be borked as well, right?

Thankfully the RP I RP in moved last week.

This, fortunately it's not too bad for me yet, but there are way too many people experiencing the problems you are, and LJ just ignores all the people with legitimate complaints about what is happening.

There are still workarounds, but it's really, really shitty that they have become necessary just for some people to be able to use LJ at all. On top of that the way it's looking, how long will it be before those don't work anymore, and people are just stuck with a site they can't get to function in any way? I think everything is going to be borked eventually.

Not enjoying migraines = not being able to accept change! Needing subject lines = being a big whiner! Not enjoying waiting twenty seconds for comments to expand = you're against modernization!

If they replaced the little chocolate fish in Phish Food with mouse turds, I wouldn't like that either.

I don't get the people who are all "but there are SJWs over there waaah!" There are plenty of jackasses on LJ too -- what does it matter? You don't have to play with every single person who has an account there. And people who have had run-ins with the people who own DW, okay, that sucks, but when LJ is run by the likes of igrick and has staff who have been known to harass users, I don't see how LJ wins that contest.

Honestly for me personally igrick vs. synecdochic is a wash. One is awful, the other triggered the fuck out of me with the way she acted on that Clan Mitchell thing.

I use Dreamwidth, but I don't give it money.

The RP I was in for years that I had to leave in April was actually FEATURED on the LJ front page at one point. We were huge with tons of paid accounts and everything was wonderful. Then LJ got rid of subject lines and the new comments broke EVERYTHING in the comm. At one point I couldn't make any comments at all and it killed the thread I was doing.

So we had a poll and moved to DW. THIS IS A BAD THING LJ. There was a bunch of people that were only going to LJ/spending money for accounts because of the game. And you pushed them to DW. Genius plan there.

I remember some people speculating that LJ is planning on making most of its profits from advertising (or is already doing so), so they don't care about paid accounts.

But if people are leaving it than it's a bit of a moot point, really. They won't be getting money either way.

I think the supposed rational (if the speculations were corrected) was something like "for every 1 paying customer we lose we'll get X non-paying customers that will make up for it advertising revenues".

That and apparently these new changes work better with how the Russian userbase uses LiveJournal. How, I'm not quite sure. I guess they use it more like Facebook?

Either way, it sucks and I've just about left it.

Paradisa! It was amazing though I always have to check when I spell 'paradise' now. I really miss it because not only was it fun but all of the people there are wonderful.

I think DramaDramaDuck moved around the same time too? They were even bigger than us but I never joined so I have no idea. I just remember when we were holding our poll about moving a ton of other games were doing the same because the new comments destroyed layouts and made commenting impossible.

Huh. Never had any contact with Paradisa. I played in Adstringendum for a while (like...three and a half years ago) and I know they made the move. I'm wondering how long it'll take before games aren't even started on LJ anymore.

Why in the world did LJ get rid of comment subject lines? I can understand getting rid of a feature if users were somehow abusing it, or if it was hopelessly buggy, but i'm pretty sure neither of those applied to the LJ situation.

*grits teeth* Yes. Yes, they did. You can edit your comments even with a free account, now - but not if you're anon, of course, or if someone replies to you. And when I just want to freakin' see if I did my html right, I don't want to post the fucking thing, then go back and edit it, sending two emails to the people getting notifications!

(Sorry, I'm still really upset about this. >.< )

Seriously? Is there another platform out there that doesn't allow previews for its posts? This one is even more mind-boggling than getting rid of subject lines. Preview is a basic part of interweb life! I mean I get so incredibly pissy and paranoid at Facebook for not letting me previ-

Oh, I guess there is another platform that doesn't allow previews. Somehow, I don't think that's what made Facebook what it is today, though.
