New Sailor Moon anime adaptation announced
Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Sailor Moon manga series, publisher Kodansha and creator Naoko Takeuchi announced that a new anime adaptation of Sailor Moon is on the works!
This announcement was made during a live event for the series. Idol group Momoiro Clover Z will perform the theme song for the new series called "Z Otome Shinsou". During the live event, the group sang the show's theme song "Moonlight Densetsu" via a live video feed from France, where they are guests of Japan Expo.
Although Kotono Mitsuishi and Tohru Furuya, the voices of Sailor Moon/Usagi Tsukino and Tuxedo Mask/Mamoru Chiba in the first Sailor Moon anime, were present at the live event, the event did not specify that they will reprise their roles in the new series.
The event also confirmed that the new anime will see a worldwide simulcast. It will also be a retelling of the original manga targeted at older fans.
The new Sailor Moon anime is aimed for a Summer 2013 release and is produced by Toei Animation, the same studio that gave us the first Sailor Moon anime.
