I think I need to start reading the book in preparation.

...Wow, I just realized that I can't for the life of me remember if I ever actually read this book or if I just spoiled the hell out of it for myself at some point. I know that I own it. I think that I read it. But most of what I remember at the bigger things that people would bother giving away as spoilers while not much of the rest of it is still coming into my head when I try to remember it.

I enjoyed it, if that helps any.

Also, before anyone brings up the whole, "wasn't there a plagiarism debate about this a while back?" thing, here.

Oh, right. Martell certainly seemed, if not a plagiarizer, an appropriator and rather unpleasant about the whole thing.

Yeah, if some of the stories are to be believed, he said some pretty questionable things that reflect badly on his personal character. But -- having read neither book myself -- it doesn't seem like he's a plagiarist per se.

This book is one of the most bizarre things I've ever read. Like two books at both ends of the quality spectrum stuck together.
The first part: brilliant. The third part and ending: still good. But the second (and longest) part, the boat story: Completely unreadable. I skipped 90% of it and apparently didn't miss much as it was all summarized in the end.
