9:13AM - "fanwank"?
I'm sure somebody has asked this before, but I haven't seen it-- apologies if I just missed it.
Why does TWoP use the term "fanwank" so oddly? I've never seen nitpicking continuity or historical/technical accuracy or speculating about future show details to be wanky, but that's how they use the word. Am baffled, and seeing that over and over again is making *me* wanky. In the F_W sense.
1:54PM - Time explains the interwebs!
Time's cover-story is "Making Mischief on the Web," a glossary (of sorts) explaining all those weird terms nerds use these days to keep teh n00bs in line. I haven't heard of half of these; I must not be in step with those cool cats.
I mean, what on earth is a concern troll? Isn't "sock puppet" one word?
Also, our friend Jason Fortuny gets a mention.
11:59PM - Anne McCaffrey has a way with words
I just came across this quote from Anne "tent peg" McCaffrey (cited in Ansible, an online SF newsletter):
Anne McCaffrey anatomized the 2006 SF Hall of Fame inductions: 'I'm delighted to be put in the same company as Andre Norton, Gordie Dickson and Isaac Asimov. [...] I never thought it could happen, since I've admired all three as stars in the fundament of our genre.'
Uh... I think she means "firmament." "Fundament" means something else.
