12:05AM - Bookfinding help please.
Okay folks, here's the deal. I have a friend currently living on an air mattress in my room due to being temporarily kicked out of Germany. As a result, I hauled her off to a business meeting for Boskone which while looking to be a lovely time, does have a lot of details that need to be hashed out at this point in the year. And she has no idea what's going on, but she was surrounded by floor to ceiling shelves of SF/F books for about four hours. And this got her to pondering a book she read once and has never been able to find again.
So here is all she remembers about it, and we would appreciate anything else anyone can recall. I seem to remember this book as well, which is why this is driving me nuts now too.
(And in a quick plug, Boskone is particularly interested in artists submitting to the art show, and it's fairly cheap to buy panel space. End plug.)
ETA: And as usual, y'all are fabulous for showing me where to look for information. Thanks guys!
12:37AM - help finding fic for deadish fandom?
I recently became a fan of Babylon 5, and as it's lacked new canon for some time I'm finding it difficult to be fannish about. I've found a bunch of links to now-vanished Angelfire and Geocities sites, fanfic WIPs I suspect have been abandoned for years, and other indications that at one point there was fannish activity, but not a lot of active fandom. However, I also know that newcomers have trouble finding things even in active fandoms sometimes, so I thought it'd be worth asking, and as I don't have an LJ any more this seemed like my best resource.
Anyone have any idea where I can find good Babylon 5 fic/art, preferably of the finished variety? Of particular interest would be gen dealing with telepathy, Ivanova/Winters, Zack/Lyta, or any unusual ships, but I'm really interested in anything worth reading unless it's about Garibaldi. Maybe even if it is. Also interested in fannish analysis of the canon -- essays and theories and whatnot -- though I very much doubt there's any online.
1:11PM
The Blackwell list of worst-dressed celebrities came out today and blah blah Fergie and Posh Spice and so on. Ho-hum if you ask me. Then I get to the bottom.
Alison Arngrim?
As in Nellie Oleson? The Prairie Bitch herself?
One of these things is not like the other. Besides which it's more fun to pick on Carrie Ingalls, who can't walk without tripping much less comprehend couture.
3:37PM - "classic rock" fic?
Anyone know a good place to go for classic-rock-related fic? Especially one with rare pairings of the slashy variety?
(Surely someone out there has written Genesis slash. I mean, besides the few people in the single moribund community on LJ. I'm desperate. Hell, I'd read Phil Collins/Ray Wilson slash at this point. D:)
4:04PM - Bring Out Yer Porn!
It seems like this sort of thing is cool to post over here, so here goes.
Some days, you want to write deep, serious, plotty fan fiction that addresses complicated issues and deals with massive amounts of character development while exploring a whole canonical world.
And some days? You just wanna write some porn, because, let's face it, porn is fun.
We can't help you with days like the former, but the latter?
For those days, there's porn_battle, Home of Insane Journal's Only Patent-Pending Occasional Floating Pan Fandom Porn Battle!
(From the community info.)
Porn Battle on IJ is a low-stress challenge where anyone can come up with a porn prompt for any fandom. The mods collect the prompts, make a big old list, and anyone who wants to claim a prompt posts a porny ficlet in the comments to said post. The ficlet has to be comment-length, so nothing over 4300 characters. Other than that, anything goes. And because all fic is posted in comment form, you don't need an IJ account to participate.
Prompt collection ends late tonight, the master list goes up on Thursday, and the porning ends the following Monday. Here's a more detailed explanation of the rules, should you need it.
The maintainers are
helens78,
salixbabylon, and
telesilla, and we've already got a pretty good slice of fandom represented, but it never hurts to have more.
