12:16PM - DIVX converter recs?

Can anyone recommend a DIVX converter that's easy to use, (hopefully) free and runs on Windows 98/ME?

A DIVX converter seems to be the best solution to my problem, but I'm not sure where to start looking.

So.

...help?

Edited to clarify: I want to burn .avi files to DVD to watch on my DVD player and TV. The problem is that most of the .avi files are encoded with GMC, which my DVD player can't handle. Hence my search for a DIVX encoder so I can hopefully turn the GMC-encoded .avi files into .avi files I can watch on my DVD player.

5:36PM - JF Avatar Comm?

Since the Avatar comms on LJ seem to be full of either a) teenies, b) batshit, or c) batshit teenies, I was wondering if there was any interest in starting up a comm over here, for discussion and squeeage. We have to have something to do between now and July, right?

8:50PM

James Marsters talked a bit about his role of Piccolo in the live-action Dragon Ball movie at a con. He said they wanted Piccolo to look pretty and he said HELL NO!

Speaking of live-action anime: My friend who's usually hard to please has declared he's going to see Speed Racer opening day because the music video is one of the greatest cheese-tastic things he ever seen.

9:01PM - The World Keeps On Turning

Hey, remember a while back when the fans of As the World Turns (an American daytime soap) were doing a protest to demand that the gay couple be allowed to have actual kissing scenes?

It worked!!

Link to YouTube vid of actual kissing.

Take that, world!

You might want to add this: In response to heat they're getting from the American Family Association, P&G is conducting a phone poll to see if people are for or against the Luke/Noah storyline on As The World Turns. Even if you don't watch the show, please consider taking a quick moment to support boy kissing and thwart homophobic bigotry. The poll is completely automated. You don't have to talk to anyone. And it really does take all of a second to register your opinion.

Just call 1-800-331-3774 and press #1 to continue in English (or #2 for Spanish), then 2 to get to the ATWT poll, then press 1 to continue the storyline.

Please spread the word if you're so inclined. The fight for good has never been so simple! :)
