1:10AM - New Doctor Who Ficfest!

So a little earlier today, I was poking around a bit online, and I ran into a page full of Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey.

"Wow," I said to myself. "You know, these quotes would be perfect for a Doctor Who ficfest."

Please allow me to pimp that ficfest to you now!

Spoilers for the New Who Series 4 finale under the cut. )

10:49AM - Lifetime to honor Estelle Getty with a Golden Girls marathon.

This Friday, July 25, from 12 noon to 5 pm et/pt, see an on-air tribute to Estelle Getty, who played Sophia Petrillo on "The Golden Girls." Ms. Getty passed away July 22nd at age 84. Lifetime will air 10 episodes showcasing her character, Sophia, in all her sarcastic splendor. The final episode shown will be one picked by the fans, so go vote for your favorite Sophia moment now.

Lifetime may be letting the Girls go next year, but until then, they're still treating them with class.

(Personally, one of my favorite Sophia episodes is "The Heart Attack" from season one.)

12:02PM - MTV to remake The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Lou Adler, executive producer of the original film, is partnering with BermanBraun and Fox Television Studios on the new rendition.

Two-hour remake will use the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien but may also include music not featured in the original.

Helmer and casting decisions have yet to be announced.

"I'd like to see it shown a year from this coming Halloween, but that's up to MTV," Adler said.

BermanBraun principal Gail Berman will exec produce the project along with partner Lloyd Braun. Berman has been attached to a "Rocky Horror" remake dating back to her tenure as Fox programming chief (Daily Variety, July 1, 2002).

FanLib.com was founded on the belief that fan creativity is a true art form that deserves a first-rate showcase for cultivation and celebration. Over the course of the past fifteen months, you have triumphantly confirmed this notion with an astonishing display of talent, enthusiasm, imagination and camaraderie.

So, it is especially difficult to announce that FanLib.com will shut down on Monday, August 4, 2008.

I don't know if this belongs here or [info]random_lounge (or even [info]clairvoyantwank because even the Japanese are almost wanking about it and I can't wait to see the English-speaking fandom's reactions to it) - but anyway, please allow me to pimp "Hetalia", since it's going to be animated, and all.

"Hetalia" is, in short, pure and utter crack about antropomorphized countries before and during WWII - the title is a pun on "hetare" (loser) and Italy. Here's a better introduction to it, with pictures and stuff. (Btw, from what I've seen it's not particularly slashy, though it's definitely BL friendly.) It started as a webcomic, gained a following (there's fanart and fanfic and even cosplay - also an LJ comm) and now there's going to be a drama CD and an anime series. Obviously, it's quite controversial - it's deemed tasteless and embarrassing for Japan by many people, while its fans argue that people shouldn't take it seriously, it's just for fun and avoids offensive topics.

Me, I think it's a bit like "'Allo, 'Allo" only with cute SD characters. Also, my country is a cute girl (cosplayed by cute girls) and is apparently a BL fangirl. That's all I needed to know to fall in love with this.

6:06PM - Hellsing! On Ice! (Well, not really).

This was too amusing to not share.

Twilight fans line up one (1) mile deep at San Diego Comic-Con, steal seats from journalistsare out of their minds:

One young lady just stepped up to the mic and asked Robert Pattinson, “How does it feel to be one of the hottest guys in [couldn’t hear over the screams], because I want YOU, baby, woo hoo!” As Pattinson struggled to answer, I couldn’t help but laugh my ass off watching my friend David Chen of /Film sitting beside me holding his head. That question was so awesome.

ETA: RPattz speaks: "It's terrifying. It's like the sound you hear at the gates of hell."
