9:05AM - Daniel Hemmens doesn't like Harry Potter

He also doesn't like HP fanfic rip-offs, so you can imagine what he thinks of Cassandra Clare's City of Bones.

But you don't have to imagine! because he reviews it in the latest FerretBrain.

In short, "This book makes Harry Potter look like a thoughtfully constructed work of character-driven drama."

12:48PM

Fall Out Boy donates $50K to No on Prop 8.

"We believe government shouldn't legislate love. Vote no on proposition 8."

(For non-Californians: Proposition 8 would amend the state constitution to define marriage as between one man and one woman. Currently, same-sex marriage is legal via judicial ruling.)

ETA: Additional links, while I'm at it.
Without expletive deleted. This one also mentions that Google also opposes the measure.

Apparently so do Brad Pitt and Steven Spielberg.

6:05PM - Running With The Theme, or Hey Kids, What Time Is It?

It's time to play everyone's favorite game:

AMV Matchup!

The [info]fandom_rant thread is starting to drift toward this anyway, so let's make it official...

As established, everybody's sick and tired of the same old same old when it comes to AMVs. Too much "Mortal Kombat" theme. Too much Evanescence. Too much Linkin Park. Too much "boom-de-yada"[1]. Too much...and the list goes on.

So what do you think would work, that you haven't seen? Provide links to music/video if you wish.

I'll throw one out as an opening suggestion:

[info]kadath and I and a few others were discussing the possibility of some of the old folk tunes. How about Old Dun Cow (as performed here by the Brobdingnagian Bards, but I have an MP3 by the Crimson Pirates I think would work better) set to a Lina Inverse (Slayers) eating/drinking/making things explode montage?

([info]ecchaniz0r, they also have a pretty awesome cut of "Bedlam Boys"/"Tom Of Bedlam.")

[1] Besides, how can you top XKCD?

Current mood: curious
Current music: Old Dun Cow - Crimson Pirates - Putrid And Disgusting
