12:26AM - JFNYU Post-Mortem, or "I Mustn't Run Away"
The second JF NYU outing was a stunning success.
vzg,
kylenne,
undomielregina and her +1, a law school friend of mine, and I met up at Shima, ate a very rushed dinner (next time, I swear, I'll allot more than an hour; I was just busy until 7:30), and went to Evangelion 1.0 at the theater across the street.
Honestly, we enjoyed it, really. The story's a lot more coherent and straightforward; might we actually get a working, solid conclusion to Evangelion?
Hope springs eternal.
After the movie was done, we ambled back to my dorm room here for drinks and spent about an hour watching various bits of anime (the original Eva opening and ending, a bit of GaoGaiGar for sheer "this was made in 1997? Not 1977? You're sure?", some of Utena's first episode mostly for the music), and chatting about various related topics.
Lots of fun.
feenix and
sgtgeorgecarter, sorry you couldn't make it. But fear not! We're not going to spend a year between outings. I'm already thinking we might want to skip the movie, and just do dinner, drinks, and kibitzing some time next month, maybe make this a monthly outing.
(If there's enough interest in that, it probably deserves a spin-off community, so I stop clogging up
fandom_lounge. Thoughts?)
In the meantime, I'll be at the NYAF this Friday afternoon. And the future will out, in its own time.
But thanks to all who could attend!

Here's an example of a video game company with a great sense of humor.
A fan thought up a new Team Fortress 2 class and put an extreme amount of effort into it that some people found it could pass as real (besides being a wee bit broken). Valve noticed and responded.
