10:30AM
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to return to air in 2010
They're also releasing a whole new line of MMPR toys to go with it. I can finally buy all the toys I was "too old for" when I was a kidlet~
BRB FANGIRLING FOREVER
11:38AM - Help me Fandom Lounge, you're my only hope
Well, not my only hope but certainly my best hope.
I've been looking for new reads lately and haven't had much luck as an epic battle seems to be raging at the local Barnes & Noble, with the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section losing ground quickly to the Paranormal Romance section (don't even get me started on the Twilight Takeover). As much as I enjoy Urban Fantasy, it's really hard to find good ones when they all look like the same variation on "Girl in jeans with ass on cover".
So, what are your sci-fi, fantasy (and even a little bit bit of urban fantasy) suggestions, F_L?
Things I've read and loved:
The Dresden Files - Jim Butcher
Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell - Susanna Clarke
The first couple Young Miles - Lois McMaster Bujold (note: I am stuck on Mirror Dance because Mark needs to stop being so whiny and emo)
The Temeraire series - Naomi Novik
The Scar - China Mieville (read his other stuff too, but that was my favorite)
A Song of Ice and Fire - George RR Martin
Practically everything by Neil Gaiman
Things I've read and have not been terribly impressed by:
The Mercy Thompson series - Patricia Briggs
The Court of the Air - Stephen Hunt
The Secret Texts series - Holly Lisle
Rose Daughter and Sunshine - Robin McKinley (love her premises, but her follow-through leaves me cold)
So what should I read next, f_l?
3:46PM - LJ Down
Is anyone else having problems accessing LJ? My connection keeps timing out, but the status page claims everything is working fine and there's nothing on the Twitter either
9:05PM - Webcomic rec for the tabletop gamers and LOTR fans here.
Lord of the Rings is more or less the foundation of modern D&D. The latter rose from the former, although the two are now so estranged that to reunite them would be an act of savage madness. Imagine a gaggle of modern hack-n-slash roleplayers who had somehow never been exposed to the original Tolkien mythos, and then imagine taking those players and trying to introduce them to Tolkien via a D&D campaign.Hilary ensues to screencaps from the movies.
