I recall reading a very funny mocking essay about smarm in the Sentinel fandom quite a few years ago. Now I want to send it to a friend of mine, but I haven't been able to find it. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
9:28PM - Worksafe, geek-interest blogs?
I work a customer service phone type job where I have some free-time in between calls. So I've taken to surfing some blogs during work, but I don't ..know that many interesting blogs? The Gawker circuit of blogs gets old pretty fast (though the American Apparel fail story has been entertaining) and most blogs I follow don't update often enough. You can only read news on BBC.co.uk for a certain period of time.
So I'm looking for any blogs that cater to geek interests (fandomy, comics, sci-fi, videogames, TV, any social justice on the side a big bonus) that are relatively high-traffic and with a multitude of contributers (preferably). Put it this way; like a mix of the three Gawker-network blogs I visit, Gawker, io9 and Jezebel, only without as much inane reality TV chatter (the cult of Speidi, Real Housewives and Jersey Shore makes me cringe).
The bosses aren't constantly spying on what sites we surf but the less I have moments where one of them comes over and I accidentally left some kink meme on livejournal open and hastily minimize the window, the better.. (I shouldn't have but was so bored I caved. Never again!)
