A friend of mine and fellow fan, foresthouse, has a degenerative eye disease called keratoconus. She has posted about it in her LJ here.

Yesterday, she had surgery in her right eye to help correct this condition. Unfortunately, since this is a clinical trial, the surgery is not covered by her insurance, and she must pay for it all out of pocket by the end of the month (that's $3000 she needs to come up with by October 31st).

A friend of hers has started a charity auction for her here. That link contains all the details.
