10:16PM - Book recs for a 12-year-old?

I'm looking to get my kid sister into some good easy-to-read fantasy. She's twelve, a non-native English speaker and she can understand most TV dialogue, but doesn't have the patience to read English for too long in one sitting. I've tried books for younger readers, but she gets bored easily by too-simple books.

So, I'm thinking of getting her some Terry Pratchett YA books, like Amazing Maurice (she loves cats!), the illustrated Wee Free Men and the Bromeliad trilogy, but I'm stuck there.

Otherwise she likes cats and lots and lots of romance and icky gender stereotypes, but that's something else entirely. And, uh, that's kinda about it. I'm pretty much out of ideas because we read different genres. I'm really just trying it as a means to improve her English, so any help is appreciated!

ETA: I forgot to add that that my sister scares quite easily, is very squeamish and can't tolerate too many heads on one body. So nothing too nightmare-fuel-y.
