12:17AM - Wanted: Sherlock S02E01 Thoughts
Edit 7: I think this matter was a big enough issue since Stephen Moffat himself addressed it. Was/Is there similar controversy for Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows? (I have no more energy to trawl through the SH movies fandom.)
When I found out what happened to ( spoiler for Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows ), I point-blank refused to watch the movie/am still not watching it, irregardless that I had been looking forward to it since last last year.
Let's just say that (currently, most probably because of above movie) I can't help but feel touchy about how this particular SH character is portrayed these days or what happens to said character. ( spoiler for original SH story )
So, my question is to people who already saw Sherlock S02E01. In your opinion, is the character treated okay-ish? I've already spoiled myself over at Wikipedia and TVTropes, and the early reviews seem to ( Apologies. Should have spoiler tagged this bit, too. )
Advisory: Comments most likely will contain spoilers.
Edit 1: Have found out that Steven Moffat (and others) are trying to ( spoilers spoilers spoilers )
Edit 2: Have finally seen S02E01.
Edit 3: Okay.
Edit 4: Sherlock writer Steven Moffat furious with sexist claim
Edit 5: Found this piece of awesome. Now happy.
Edit 6:
( 3 Tweets from Stephen Moffat. )

8:17PM - Book recs
My extended family knows me very well, and as a result I have a substantial amount of B&N gift cards that need to be put to good use. I'd like to try out some new authors, and since I got some wonderful recs the last time I asked for 'em here, I thought I'd ask again.
Anyway, to start off, some of my favorite authors/books/series are as follows:
Terry Pratchett
J.K. Rowling
J.R.R. Tolkien
Meg Cabot's Mediator series
Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle trilogy (found via f_l rec post)
Lisa Mantchev (also found via f_l)
Jim C. Hines (ditto)
The Hunger Games
Larklight (Thanks, Sep!)
Carl Hiaasen
Diane Duane
His Dark Materials
The Chronicles of Narnia
In general, I like sci-fi/fantasy/steampunk/cyberpunk that has a sense of humor about itself. I also love books with strong LGBTQ themes, Lovecraftian horror, books involving horses, and veterinary autobiographies (a la James Herriot). I'm not a fan of graphic rape/sexual assault or overly depressing endings (such as the Mortal Engines trilogy). Also, I've finally watched all of the original Star Wars movies and am head over heels for Leia, so any Leia-focused Star Wars EU novel recommendations would be much appreciated.
Anyway, bonus points for any recs that are available on the Nook.
ETA: Wow, thanks, y'all! I'll start responding to individual comments tomorrow, but for now I'll just say that I definitely intend to check out Jasper Fforde, Malinda Lo, Seanan McGuire, Ally Carter, Tamora Pierce, Gail Carriger, Kissing the Witch, Tanith Lee, Chris Wooding, Charles Stross, Kage Baker, Patricia Wrede, Megan Whalen Turner and Christopher Brookmyre.
Anyway, much obliged.
