9:01PM - It's "Name That Novel" Time!

Friend of mine on LJ posts:

I've tried all sorts of searches, and can't find what I'm looking for.

Back in college, I found lots of neat SF antholgies in the campus library. There was one story in particular that I never found again; I don't recall the title, author or the anthology.

It was published before 1973; that's all I know for sure.

It was mostly a time travel story: a team of investigators have traveled in a nifty, self-contained vehicle into the past to study one of the dinosaur eras. The story's narrator is out on a recce when he encounters some definite anomalies: two strange children, and some thuggish adults, who turn out to be Martians (from a civilization which is long dead in the narrator's "present"). Then the story turns into a bit of a crime thriller (the children have been kidnapped)and mystery: can the narrator save the kids from the bad guys, and if they can't get back to Mars, what will happen to them? There is, of course, a twist at the end that solves it all.

Does that ring any bells? I'd really like to find this again!
