Maybe it's something to do with the name Anne?
Seems that the author of the short story Brokeback Mountain wasn't happy with the film's loss, and says so

Here's her original spiel, a la Anne Rice

Well, at least she admitted it was sour grapes.

I think she was trying to go for the "Well, you can SAY it's sour grapes, but if you do you're just proving me right in thinking Hollywood is provincial, so there!"

I can forgive her somewhat because she's oh, a million times better of a writer than Anne Rice. And she's not condemning people for writing fanfiction or telling them they're interrogating the text from the wrong perspective. She's just bitter that the movie based on her short story didn't win best picture. It's to be expected.

It's to be expected.

It is? How many other Oscar non-winners have publicly proclaimed how they should have been the winner?

Well she's certainly not the only person who was surprised/disappointed at Crash's win. Maybe it's not expected, but I'm not surprised at her reaction.

I tend to agree, although I'd be a bit more sympathetic if she weren't being so pissy about it.

If I remember correctly Clint Eastwood publicly said he should have won the year ROTK did.
