Illegal in Australia
I'm trying to compile a list of recs of stories that could get people busted for possession of child pornography in those lovely places where stories involving underaged sex can be illegal: here. If you've got the time and you've got a favorite (or just well-liked) story you think qualifies, it'd be great if you could leave a comment.

Umm...if you're doing fanfic, wouldn't that list literally run into the hundreds of thousands just in the HP-verse alone?

It'd probably easier to do published RL fic that try to collate all the fanfics involving underaged people.

Considering that I'm kind of hoping for drama, but still find the concept of people thinking I like child porn squicky, I'm starting to regret posting at all. But I've gotta remind myself to stop taking it so seriously and soldier on, for the sake of Freedom.

I don't imagine most of us think you like child porn, though we do have a general consensus that you like erotic candle art a leeeetle bit too much. But until we figure out what that means, it's all good.

What's the age of consent in Australia, anyway? Is it underaged if they're under 18 or underaged if they're under 16 or what?

Although, really, I guess it doesn't matter much, given that Canon!Yuusuke is 14 and Canon!Kurama is 15 and I've probably got about fifteen million links to fics you've probably already read to give you when I get home, but still.

It varies from state to state, but it averages around 18, with a bit of leeway if the participants are around the same age. No lower than 16, at any rate.

Of course, there's no way we can tell if the minors in these stories were 14 or 4.

I looked it up before posting - and apparently it's sixteen in the Northern Territory, where Nick Gill was arrested. I'm not sure about the details, though (what about appearing in porn, does it matter, is that just sex between minors, yadda yadda).

I admit it, I totally am! I plan to turn in every Australian and Canadian person who responds, and then I plan to point and laugh as they lose their jobs, are abandoned by their families, and commit suicide because they just can't take it anymore!

... I hope Australian/Canadian responders would be smart enough to post anon.

Ac-tually, I'm rather fond of the Bittersweet Potions Series at intertexius.com by Bug and Dent on account of it has underage sex, but it doesn't rose-filter it at all. I've been trying to figure out if it would be illegal because it's all "okay, see how this screws with their heads and is totally not hot?" so it's kind of saying "we don't approve of this" yet...it's student/teacher.

I have no idea. In that Canadian article that was being passed around, it seemed as though it would only be illegal if it was portrayed as normal or desirable, but I have no idea how accurate that article is or how it is in NT.

If you're going to cross that line, you'd have to outlaw a lot of books, though.

I don't think either would qualify as pornography. Definitely not Romeo & Juliet, where the closest you get to graphic sex is dirty jokes. And in Lolita the relationship is totally fucked up - you'd have to fail Reading Comprehension 101 in order to think that it was "promoting" sex with children.

A lot of other books, though.
