CC changes spelling

I'm sure somebody should know that the user previously known as cassandraclaire has changed her name. cassandraclare is the new name by which LJ and friends will know her, scarcely different and probably not worth the $15 presumably shelled out for a rename token.

The careful reader will note that although LJ automagically changes any URL, the manual content of her journal has not changed yet, so sometimes you can call her claire and sometimes clare. If you want to.

Huh. I wonder if that's the name under which she intends to publish professionally. If so, it's an interesting choice-- easy to identify for anyone who knows who she is, but her fandom stuff is not readily available in a google search to those who don't know. I'd already noticed that she's switched all her NC-17 fics to be listed under "Epicyclical" at the Potter Slash Archive.

So, um, interesting to me (and me alone!)-- but I mostly want to know what names I'm avoiding.

That's a good point. I know when I was visiting grad schools last year, one professor did a Google on my name and got my personal homepage, including my webcomic and fanfic/fanart. I was a little embarassed and a lot thoughtful after that.

(I also realized that I probably have too much out there to separate the name I publish under for work and my fannish identity -- my real name is all over my site, and on other sites, like Elfwood.)

On the other hand, if you Google 'Cassandra Clare', you still get things for 'Cassandra Claire', so it's not fool-proof.

Yes, anything that relies upon accurate spelling of other users is probably a doomed enterprise.

So what are we saying here? That there might be some possible point to this. That's not what I was expecting when I first mentioned it.

Oh man, I hadn't thought of that. *Googles self* Eh, just links to my mediocre art and writing on Elfwood (which appears to be down), and an article about me being involved with a drag show. Go me and my internet invisibility!

I don't have to worry about that myself. Common first name + common last name = instant google anonymity!

*shakes fist* Damn my relatively uncommon German surname paired with my also relatively uncommon first name!

I have a pretty damn uncommon name, but it also happens to be the exact same name as a world-famous pediatrician who is flying all over the world saving lives and shit.

So, if you google my name, (first, middle and last) it makes me look damn good!

I just checked and if you google just my first and last name you get a famous journalist.

Awesome.

Googling my online name turns up a bunch of interesting stuff, and the stuff involving me myself is anywhere to be found in the first dozen pages of results. :) Googling my real name, on the other hand, doesn't turn up as much interesting stuff, but something to do with me myself does show up somewhere on the first page (out of two, heh).

Me so jealous. XD If you google my name, you get a few of the articles I wrote for the high school paper. That's actually pretty cool.

Oh, and some lady who helped sew a bunch of shirts together for kids, which was sweet.

...Googling my name brings up a horrible poet. Who's about my age, and lives in my state but IS NOT ME.

Can I sue someone over this?

If you google my real name, you get Harry Potter fanfic that I didn't write. Bad Harry/Draco, if I recall correctly.

Isn't it great? If you google my real name, I'm either a doctor or an author. I positively encourage people to google me.

as far as I can tell, I'm the only person anywhere with my name combination. (of course, I've always been leery of putting my name anywhere, so I think googling my real name gets about three real hits.)

otoh, googling my username gets you eighteen billion hits, because Leiutenant Commander Soleta is a popular character in a Star Trek spinoff.

(what? I'm a nerd.)

Hahaha, I think I'm the only person with my name combo, too. "First + Last", in quotes, is seven hits, from various things that actually referenced me online for some reason. "First + Middle + Last", in quotes, gets me one, and it's a geneology page for someone who is, somehow, distantly related to me.

Upside: Hooray, I'm unique! Downside: I can't put my real first name on my journal, the way most people do, because it's not exactly the same as being "Jennifer S." or "Rachel D."

Google tells me that I'm a semi-famous soccer player and also a Highland dancer! Score!

(Of course, the one link that actually is me is to some HORRIBLE art I did a long time ago. *facepalm*)
