O RLY?
I have to ask... where did the "O RLY?" and "YA RLY!" owls originate from? What does the "YA RLY!" owl even look like? (I know what the O RLY one looks like :P) I'm trying to figure out that whole meme, to explain it to a friend. :)

You think O RLY is baffling?

Try wrapping your brain around the Russian equivelant - "Preved Bear". (Wiki explanation)

Wow, that's um, weird. The fact that the painting's by John Lurie reminded me that I want to find a copy of Fishing With John.

Eek! THAT John Lurie? I thought the name sounded familiar!

"He has wooden legs, but real feet!"

"That looks like the same fish!"
"It can't be. The first one's still down my pants."

God, I loved that show.

I haven't seen it yet, but I really want to. I've only seen him in Down By Law.

...

*brain hurts*

I have a feeling that I'm really, really missing something. Such as large amounts of cultural and linguistic context.

ORLY comes from the heart of every child, and the smile of young lovers in the spring.

I saw T-shirts with the O RLY and YA RLY owls on them at Anime Expo. I almost bought one.

You did? I never saw them. I didn't spend a whole lot of time shopping, though. (I did spend a lot of time mediating between the two 15-year-old girls I came with. Augh! Random Con Guy is not worth that much stress, kids! Also, I learned far, far more about my little brother's sexual habits than I ever wanted to know. And he wasn't even *there*.)

Two teenage girls fighting over a guy they don't know sounds... amusing. Only not.

I spent most of my time either shopping or gawking at cool costumes. My 12-year-old daughter came for two of the days, but she wanted to do essentially the same things. It was fun, but embarrassing moments included her saying "Look, Mommy, it's Pyramid Head again!" and having her ask me what a yaoi paddle is. (She asked me what yaoi is back when she was 9... but this was almost beyond me...)
