Does anyone know of any decent free website hosts that don't have a thousand popups? I've had my fan fiction site at Geocities since 2001, and the side ads and occasional popups don't bother me too much, but I'd really love to have a place where I wouldn't have to deal with them. Reccomendations?

At first I was so excited ... but it looks like we're only allowed to build pages using their templates. And now I'm sad.

You can upload your own files as well, including HTML or CSS.

I couldn't find that the first time I logged in, but the second time I logged in the welcoming page is different.

fateback.com? I don't know about ads, since I don't actually have a site there (I've just used it to host things).

If it's just a fanfic archive, I'd be willing to host it for you. My domain is spearedjams.com (there's nothing there right now) so you could have whateveryouwant.spearedjams.com or spearedjams.com/whateveryouwant. :D If you're interested, drop me a line at cnyl @ sympatico.ca and I'll set it up for you. :)

freewebs.com is okay. you have to put a code at the bottom of every page, but it's really unintrusive and i've never had a problem with them.

Depends on where you are

In the UK, 'Freeola' provides a superb service and the largest amount of free webspace I could find when I went looking (which was some time ago, admittedly). No pop-ups, no catch, and no interference. I've been with them for five years now and they've been continuously efficient and non-intrusive.

I have a pixelart/adoptables site on sitesled and it's pretty good. I geneally get one popup per visit to the entire site using Firefox, which doesn't have the best popup blocker, if you ask me... >_>

Depending upon what you want, you could use a LiveJournal account for that. Make each chapter a post, then group all chapters of a single story together in a single memories category; readers can leave reviews via commenting.

Heh not with LJ feeding all it's content out and planning on how to invade you with ads.
And have you ever got memories to work? I get it to find something I know is there about 70% of the time.

My friend's LJ has ads. They're really not that bad. And you could always shell out the $25 to get rid of it if it really, really bothered you. :-)

Why does everyone have so much trouble with memories? Mine almost consistently work, and when they don't, all I do is refresh. I wonder if it's a batch error.

I won't be giving LJ money again until they get a clue about customer service and get their back end working. My memories rarely work, the search feature rarely works correctly and I only intermittently get notifications. I have a waaay too long list of things I no longer appreciate that they are doing.

I dislike being mined for ads. Just a personal thing. And by the look of it, paying isn't going to keep them out for long.

I was wondering that too about why people always mentioning the memories not working. Mine always work. I *did* have trouble late last year/early this year but refreshing the page would fix the problem most of the time and I can't remember the last time I had to do that.

Wordpress is officially for weblogging, but I bet you could make a nice fanfiction archive there via tags, posts, and categories.
