I don't know why people are suprised....
But has everyone seen that they changed the writing that appears on the back of Harry's hand in OOTP the "I must not tell lies" thats in the book to "I must not break rules" in the movie?

http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/#article:9250

I am waiting to see what wank comes of it, but so far, everyone seems to be agreeing that it was a bad change.

*squints* But that change doesn't even make sense. He got detention for lying, not rulebreaking. How're they even making that work?

I really, really hope that it doesn't mean, that Luna's interview is going to get completely cut out. v.v;

I hearted that whole storyline so much. I think I'd be kind of pissed if they left it out.

Luna rocked my socks from the first page I saw her... I loved how she and Harry were friends at the end.

On the plus side at least we know that Luna's been cast... Now the only question is, will she actually get to do anything... =/

Or will they give all her parts to Hermione like they did with Ron?

I've got a bad feeling that Luna's going to end up like Krum and Fleur in GoF- being reduced to more or less a background character with a line or two here and there.

According to a post in the comments for the article post on Leaky Cauldron, the interview with Rita was cut.

Errr, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that ruin one of the main points of the book?

No, you're correct, but these movies have been so severely screwed up since Cuaron butchered movie 3....I had hopes after 4 sort of redeemed things, but I am not holding high hopes for movie 5 based on what we are seeing so far.

Of course, someone did point out that if the fans make a big enough stink, they may fix the writing on the hand like they did the screw up on Tom Riddles gravestone with digital editing.

Sorry to ask, but what was the screw-up on the tombstone? I stopped watching the movies after POA.

Lord Voldemort as Tom Riddle was included on the tombstone, and the date was wrong for his "death" by about 10 years.

Sorry, date of birth was wrong, not death...its late and I'm tired, and trying to keep all the little details they mess up straight is hard work. lol

IIRC, it had Voldemort's father's name as "Tom Marvolo Riddle, Sr." which didn't make any sense because the Marvolo part of his name came from his mother's side of the family.

Sorry, needed to add that it was a screw up that it was Voldemort on there, not his father, and still the date was wrong by about 10 years.

So far it looks like the plotline of the movie is entirely the DA and fighting Voldemort--nothing else.

No. Harry gives an interview. People read it. And that's the end of that plotline. :/

Not only does that not have the same creepy feel, the filmmakers seem to be completely missing the point of the scenes which in my view was that Harry was being punished for lying when he wasn't lying at all. In fact he desperately trying to tell people the truth.

WTF? That doesn't make any sense! What was the justification behind that?

I don't know why this is pissing me off as much as it is. I bet it's Steve Kloves' fault.

There was much rejoicing when it was first announced. But we'll see how much that remains true as more details like this dribble out...

That's just silly. "I must not tell lies" was so twisted and sinister. "I must not break rules" doesn't have the same effect at all.

Yeah, I just keep thinking, "Harry breaks rules ALL THE FUCKING TIME and never gets in trouble, and now all of a sudden he has to get it etched into his hand?"

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]cadesama
2006-11-21 10:43 am UTC (link)
Yep. As far as establishing Umbridge as a villain, "She punished him for breaking the rules." Seems far more likely to elicit a hearty eye-roll and "Finally!" than "Oh noes!"

Well, at least they aren't wussing out on the effect of the quill itself. I've been dying to see that since I first read OotP. That and Luna. (Screw her up and I am DONE with you, HP franchise!)

Well, at least they aren't wussing out on the effect of the quill itself.

True that. A good thing about the movies is they aren't afraid to show at least some of the scary stuff. Like the Voldemort-fetus in GoF. *shudder*

I wonder if the fact Tonks seems to stick with the purple hair will cause wank as well. (Never seen a Tonks shot without the purple hair... though I really, really love the purple.)

Wow. That really makes no sense at all. I mean, they could make it work, I guess, but somehow the image of Harry waving his scarred fist at Rufus Scrimgeour with "I must not break rules" on it doesn't quite have the same impact.

[info]keleri

It's so... arbitrary. What was wrong with "I must not tell lies"? Why would they go through the extra work of thinking up something different? o_O

[info]telegramsam

Because the script only bears a superficial resemblance to the plot of the book? I'd be surprised if they filmed even 30% of the original story.

Haven't seen Wicked. I thought Lord of the Rings did a servicable job considering the sheer volume of material they had to work with, at least on the extended editions. I don't even remember the theatrical ones to be honest. They did change a few pointless things, like having someone other than Pippin figure out the door riddle for Moria and having all those poncy elves show up at Helm's Deep and completely cutting out the Scouring of the Shire, though.

Hollywood. Meh.

:thud:

Ah, yes. I see canon flying free and unfettered above the movie scripts, but... :wince:

The dialogue in the Snape scene in the trailer seems off-kilter as well. Really off-kilter. Snape didn't get angry at Harry for being bad at Occlumency; he got snarky and sarcastic with him. He got angry at him for the Pensieve business.

And are the DA members flying brooms into London?

But, yeah. Er, the change in the writing on the hand? WTF?
