Win! This is my favourite comment.

You may be familiar with tubgirl. I found the DVD from which that image is taken. Great for lovers of foreign films.

THANK YOU. XD That thread is awesome - I foresee many hilarious story scene prompts. (What do you mean, NaNoWriMo is over?)

Fullscreen LotR DVDs. Beautiful.

I don't get it. :(

Is it the fullscreen vs widescreen thing, or the LotR thing?

I am teh dumb.

Partly a nerd snobbishness thing. But you can safely guess that anyone who wants a DVD of the LotR films is geekish enough to want the widescreen, instead of the fullscreen which chops both edges off some really lovely cinematography.

Ah! All makes sense now. I just kept going "but...why would it be evil?"

Someone did a version of this to my brother, giving him the theatrical release version when he was waiting for the extended version. It made him a bit nuts to spend that much money on for the extra thirty minutes of scenes.

Really? I have both theatrical and extended versions. So do all the LotR geeks I know. It was essential for us to get both versions. (And if another version comes out, we're going to get that, too.)

... you mean, the third extended edition they put out six months ago?

Nah. Content wasn't different, so no need.

*shrug* I actually *prefer* fullscreen editions of things. My TV isn't all that big, and I'd rather miss non-relevant bits off the side than have everything squinched down from the top and bottom.

(ignore previous comment. Just woke up. And yes, us film snobs are the worst to buy DVDs for. Things were especially bad in the VHS era with subs and dubs.)

YES.

Most especially Streamline anime dubs *still remembers the painfully bad one for Akira*

I got into an extremely heated argument with Carl Macek at an anime convention once. My friends had to make me leave. He never came back to that con again.

I am not at all ashamed.

dude, fuckin' karaoke machines. my friend's little sister got one for her birthday, but I haven't seen it since then. I think her parents may have taken to it with a hammer. I was there when she got it, and I know that's what I wanted to do after a few hours.

I helped a friend of mine pick out the perfect gift to torment her husband's ex-wife... a big string-your-own-beads kit for her seven-year-old daughter. She'll be picking those things out of odd places forever.

A friend of mine once joked about getting me moderately expensive chocolates with artificially-colored raspberry/strawberry/cherry filling (I'm allergic to red food coloring) and then eating them herself, in front of me, when I reminded her that I couldn't have them. Luckily this was only a joke; otherwise I doubt we'd be friends any longer.

My mother-in-law majored in this, I think. Gifts several sizes too small? Check. Polyester plaid shirts to my husband? Check. Religious gifts when she knows I'm Pagan? Check. She's also incredibly fond of giving "gifts" of soap, shampoo, and other hotel freebies. Jeff Foxworthy joked about shower caps from hotels as presents, but she actually *does* this.

This reminds me of the time I gave my entire class puzzle rings for Christmas back in grade school. Because I couldn't solve them, so I figured someone else would, and I could ask them how.

Several people in the class did, then they all agreed that they would refuse to tell me. I was equally amused at that though, so it all worked out.

I used to work with a real racist and signed him up with a 2 year subscription when I got a free offer from Black Enterprise magazine. In addition to the monthly magazine, he now also receives lots of junk mail from the NAACP, United Negro College Fund and others. Maybe not as subtle as what you're looking for, but definitely a gift that keeps on giving.

I am so madly in love with this person right now.
