I CAN'T be the only ASOIAF fan here...
HBO has gotten the rights to a "A Song of Ice and Fire" TV series.

This could be either very good or very bad. Either way, I'm pretty sure there will be wank eventually.

HBO makes quality television, I'm sure it'll be good.

I agree. I'm usually not an optimist when it comes to these things, but HBO really does put out wonderful series, so I'm willing to bet if they go through with it, it will be awesome. What I'm most worried about is that they won't do it at all. -_-

Rome barely gets a second season because of the expense, so they greenlight a series that'll probably require similar production efforts and CGI? Right. That'll work.

It'll be nice if it does work out, I guess.

Okay, maybe not greenlit. But still.

I for one am VERY interested in seeing this. One thing's for sure, though: Tyrion better have a snarky British accent. XD

I must return to my AGOT reading. Bad Sara!

I've heard that there has already been wank, mostly of the Which Characters Will/Won't Make It and The Books Aren't Even Finished Yet! kind.

Looks like he'd be writing one episode per season himself. Of the possible timeline he says: Maybe next year time you'll be seeing Tyrion and Dany and Jon Snow in those HBO promo spots, mixing and mingling with Tony Soprano, Al Swearengen, and Titus Pullo.

That would be an awesome crossover, too bad Martin doesn't like the fic.

The Westeros forum already has several threads, that one being the main one. There's some discussion about CGI, and locations, and of course which characters will make it or not, but I'm being optimistic. So long as GRRM finishes the series, that's the most important!

Agreed. I want to know who ends up running things in Westeros.

Y'know, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Westeros ends up divided into two kingdoms, or something.

My personal theory is that Jon Snow and Daenarys will get married and rule jointly. I mean, they've never met and they're on different continents at the moment, but it could happen!

That would be ... interesting, given one fairly convincing theory I've read about Jon Snow's real parents. (It's not really a spoiler, exactly, but I figured I'd keep it cloaked.)

Or if he doesn't, he should.

Given the prevailing theory on Jon's parentage, I'm not so sure about that. It's a possibility, but I'm thinking there'll be a bigger change. Jon/Dany would almost be like reverting back to the Targaryen days.

Most of the stuff on HBO is pretty good. As long as the effects aren't super-hokey, I'm pretty hopeful this will be good. Just wish that I had cable ;_;

SOMUCHWORD.

At least with HBO it won't be watered down like for regular cable- and if GRRM himself does at least the one episode per season or whatever it is, it should stay true to his vision.

I just read this with the repeating chant of "Oh my god!" going in the back of my head. I don't know whether it's going to be good or bad, but I'm so excited that the chance is there to see a good visual representation of that story I love so much that I would very much like to drop everything and run around the apartment screaming to everyone like a deranged fangirl. Unfortunately, everyone is at work, and I'm so ill I've lost my voice, so I'm just going to have to sit here and try not to explode from the excitement.

Oh my god!
