Cosplay article in the Sunday NY Times
Maura Egan writes about cosplay and Elena Dorfman's forthcoming book Fandomania: Characters and Cosplay. It seems likely that there will eventually be some fappery somewhere about it, but for now, it'll do as a topic for the Lounge.

A friend of mine was interviewed in this! I do kind of wonder about the way the article and the author it's about sort of lumped cosplayers in with her other subjects (pro-anas, a cult, and sex doll enthusiasts). Of course, since I don't cosplay, I just giggled at that.

...wait, they describe Yaoicon as a cosplay con where "A few of the half-cat androids and gothic Lolitas have come to this particular event not just to dress up as their favorite characters but also because they are fans of yaoi, a publishing genre that focuses on boy love."

???

Oh well, probably just the article writer being silly

Yeah, that was a bit of a "wha...?" sure, the focus of the article is cosplay and not yaoi or cons, but the focus of Yaoicon is, uh, exactly that. Yaoi.

Yeah, I had a session with her at Yaoicon in 2005, but I didn't want to be in the book. I was just afraid that she'd portray cosplayers as sad lonely people with little to no grasp on reality. Got a nice picture out of it, though.

Some of my friends were talking about it a bit earlier this month.
