Posts/actual online articles about RPF?
I know I've seen some posts, and possibly some actual online articles, discussing the legality (dubious as it may be) of writing RPF with celebrities versus RPF of non-celebrities, at least in part.

Would anyone here know what I am referring to, and more importantly, know where to find them?

Well, Bruce Campbell has pretty much written Real Person Fic about himself and that got published.

After getting fully immersed in calamitous role research at the Waldorf-Astoria, Campbell postures (and annoys) his way through the first read-through with indifferent cast members, runs lines with a timid Gere, crassly advises Zellweger on how to accentuate her bust line, dishes ex-husbands with Liz Taylor and berates the film's director of photography, Oscar-winning Vilmos Zsigmond (whose name Campbell spells Sigmund).

Embarrassment squick! Embarrassment squick!

It's utterly hilarious, and the summary doesn't even include the bit where Bruce is forced to duel with some Southern gentleman, or the bit where Richard Gere enthusiastically kicks his ass.

I love Bruce Campbell so much. I need both his books desperately.

I love how nothing in fandom fazes him.

I remember one interview way back when Hercules was still on the air where someone was like "What do you think about people writing stories about your character and Hercules having sex?" and his answer was basically "as long as they don't skimp on the details, I think it's great!"

And that is why I am sooooooo in love with him. *toddles off to look for a Campbell icon*

Hee! He just wants it to be proper graphic smut! More proof that Bruce is indeed FANTASTIC.

I seem to remember there being quite a few of those articles when the LotR fandom was going strong. Sadly, that time is over and it seems to have taken all good FPS with it, too...

That's likely where I saw what I'm so dimly remembering. And now I need it for an FAQ I'm having no luck finding any of it. *sighs*

AFAIC, the legality argument is pretty much summed up by the fact that Starf*cker was published and can be picked up at Amazon.

I agree with you on that part. What I'm trying to find is some discussion I do remember seeing about writing non-celebrities and it being an issue legally that isn't an issue in the same way writing celebrities is (which would be why the book is available I imagine).

What are the legal issues involved with Band Fiction?

A thorough summary focused on that area of RPF but with general applications as well.

This is very good but still doesn't have quite what I'm looking for, no information about writing non-celebrities. Maybe that does mean it's not an issue, but I'm sure I've seen more stuff about that somewhere. It's just a matter of finding where...
