This could be JF's finest hour
So there's the fannish brouhaha about the LJ TOSings and a big chunk of fandom is in crisis mode and looking for a new home.

If ZR and Robin were to say for once and for all just what they need to make JF a possible home for the people who want to leave LJ and be sure that they won't ever be TOS'd, if they could call for volunteers to help get JF's code up to snuff and tell us the kind of money needed to keep things a little less "robust", I think fandom would be more than interested.

Combined with the idea of an Archive of Our Own, isn't the time right for an LJ clone by the fans, for the fans?

ETA: Beyond being a call for people to buy accounts, this is intended as a call for both [info]system and the JF community to work on making JF a place where fans feel that they're getting their money's worth. JF has some flaws, and it would be nice if we knew what needed to be done to fix them.

I'd pony up. I've already got paid accts but I'd contribute extra to the cause. Alas I have no skills to contribute, but I can totally throw some money at the problem.

I've been thinking that this would be a good time to upgrade to a paid account...besides, on this site I actually have my middle name spelled properly in my username.

I'm seriously considering buying an account. If only the servers were a little less robust.

Permanent account holder on JournalFen here!

And bringing my business with me, too! Well, that which JF can hold. The rest is going to a site I'm working on obtaining. Free hosting: a fringe benefit of working for a web host.

I'd help, too. Definitely thinking of upgrading to a paid account here.

BTW, is there anywhere on JF with info on layout customization options?

*waggles creaky ol' geezer finger*

I've been a paid user here for years, and slashcity is my fannish webhost. I can dig deeper to pay more to keep JF afloat, and I hope others can pony up for at least basic paid accounts if they're heavy JF users and can toss a few bucks in the hat without going hungry.

Whippersnappers these days. Why, you don't even have to haul the ones and zeros uphill in the snow these days!

;-)

I bought a permanent account, which I do not use nearly enough... but yeah, I already visit JF 10x more than LJ, I'd support that.

Definately. I already have a paid account, but I've got at least one more friend at LJ who'd like a JF and I'd be willing to pony up the money to get her a paid account.

I'd be up for that. I'm in the process of getting hosting from slashcity already; I'd love a less wonky version of JF. I'd buy into that.

Is there any way to upgrade your account if you were one of the anon_no_more adoptees? Because I'd totally pony up the money.

I just kicked my bank institute into putting some money into my PayPal account. As soon as that goes through, I'm totally getting a paid account over here.

At least one thing came out of the whole blow-up - I actually got off my lazy ass for once.

Icon related - poor LJ userbase, eh?

Yeah ... I've already got my paid account :) . I mean, I don't think it's any of my business in the slightest to tell anyone from JF what to do with the site, but JF.net has already provided a great service by giving us a place to congregate through this mess -- I'm sure it's been rough on their servers -- and they deserve my money for that. (And I've enjoyed F_W/OTF_W/etc. over the years, too.)

I am behind this idea 100%!

I would love to see JF go hand-in-hand with the Archive.

Yes, I would pony up! I have a paid journal, I'd pay for a comm or two, and I'd be willing to toss in a donation.

I would happily pay *higher* rates for a journaling site run by non-assholes. as in, two or three times as much, if the robustness issue could be dealt with. *off to buy a paid jf account*

I'm planning to send some money this way as soon as my next paycheck comes in, definitely.

I'd love it if I know that improvements were being made that would make it easier to convince my friends to come here, too, though.
