Sorry if this is off-topic...

Hi everyone,

So almost exactly a year ago, I created an animation called "A Beginner's Guide To Faking Your Death On The Internet". I've got a fair bit of time on my hands again (ah, the joys of unemployment!) and so I'm thinking of doing another (fourth) video. As "Faking your Death" was my most successful video (largely thanks to wonderful people like yourselves) and Wankers seem to be my target audience I thought I'd ask you: what would you like to see?

I had a few ideas:

1) Animated/narrated versions of epic wanks. I was thinking msscribe, but that might be a bit longer than the ten minutes Youtube allows... and my brain starts to melt after about six or seven minutes of animation (each minute takes about four or five hours).

2) "A Beginner's Guide to House/Lost/Scrubs" etc. The thing is, I'm actually not a part of a particular fandom as such - just a wank outsider, to coin a phrase. But I do watch those shows a bit.

3) "A Beginner's Guide to Mary-Sues".

4) "A Beginner's Guide To Surviving The Harry Potter Book Launch".

5) Rather off topic, but: "A Beginner's Guide To Furries". Because furries give me the lulz.

Any thoughts? Comments? Queries? Offers of sexual gratification? Responses?

Edit: Now might be a good time to mention that I've not actually read a single word J. K. Rowling has written. Ahem. I'm going to hide now.

Hmmm, "A Beginner's Guide to Mary Sues" isn't specific to any one fandom, unlike most of the others. And "A Beginner's Guide to Furries" would have the advantage of stirring up drama among the persecution-complex subset of the furry fandom.

Oh, if you're an anime/manga fan, you could do "A Beginner's Guide to Japan", written as if all your knowledge of Japan came from watching anime.

Hrm. Good points there, thanks.

Not an anime/manga fan - although if I were that'd be a pretty damn fine idea for an animation.

Animated versions of epic wanks. Crystalwank would be a thing of beauty and probably take you several months.

Yay! I'd be very interested to see what you come up with. Mary Sues or launch parties sound terrific, though the latter could be expanded to include any midnight events (movie premieres?) if you come up short.

I vote for 'The Beginners Guide to Harry Potter' due to the upcoming book and movie releases.

Epic wanks would be a fun topic... learning how to outwalk a hurricane on video? Then again, a lot of the epics involve sockpuppetry en masse, which makes them kinda confuzzling.

I'd be quite looking forward to anything to a Mary Sue vid, as well, though.

Also, [obligatory offers of sexual gratification to be inserted here].
...
Teehee, I said "inserted" :D

I think Mary Sues are getting a bit old. It's been done, even if not in animation form, but in essays and comics and fics etc.

I'd enjoy one on Furries, but like someone said, it might generate drama. Hum.

Epic Wanks?

Snapes on an Astral plane begs for this.

Or maybe a screenplay, since we've already got all the music.

I say Harry Potter. I think it could even be funnier because you've never actually read anything. Sort of an outsider's guide on how to surive. Very helpful. In my head I'm picturing every non HP fan huddling together in some underground fallout shelter while all of the crazy fan are running around on surface creating chaos. And then, after the fans eventually kill themselves off, the nonfans slowly crawl out of the shelter at dawn, blinking and shell-shocked as the first few rays of the sun trickle out of the clouds.

Very epic.

Yeah, this guy on LJ who'd never seen the movies or read the first five books jumped into reading the sixth book and provided chapter-by-chapter summaries; it was really funny. Lets see [rumages in memories] it starts here.

OMG this is great! *reads*

I love how nobody's micro-explaining in the comments (at least so far).

Like, he doesn't know what the Death Eaters are called, so someone answers that, which seems reasonable. But no one is posting their tl;dr Snape essay in a reply.

Great idea. There you go [info]cupoftealight! It's perfect, since you're not in the HP fandom but have seen enough around *here* to get an inkling of what's about to go down. You'll be doing your fellow 'non-fandomers' a favor. ;)

I'm going to jump on the Harry Potter because of timing bandwagon. And the sex favors bandwagon

Another idea would be "A Beginner's Guide to Arguing on the Internet." See [info]jurisimprudence for ideas.

I think you could circumvent specifics of fandom and target the Downward Spiral of the Perennial Wanker quite nicely. You know, starting with LOOKATME LOOKWHUTIDONE, spiralling all the way down to LEAVING TEH INTERNETS OMG.

It's classic, really.

Personally, I wouldn't do number five if only because it's been done to death before. Same with number three. There's not much original material out there anymore for "LOLZ FURRIES" or "LOLZ MARY SUES".

That said, I have seen some hillarious epic wanks animated using the game "The Movies"... so it can be done.

I'd love to see a famous wank. I'd stay away from HP if you haven't read it just because I think it would be less fun for you and might be a little off. I've found that the things I always find most funny are the things I love (or crazy people).

And by the way, I wrote a paper about crazy people on the internet for English class (at art school, they're just happy when we can read and thusly have depressingly low standards) and I made my English teacher watch your movie, so good job! You made it into a half-assed and possibly drunkenly-written academic paper.

"LOLZ MARY SUES" would have some extra stuff to milk out of it if you also concentrated on people who freak out about Mary Sues--sporking comms and whatnot.
