A question for my fellow fen:
moonlightfans and moonlightfans.com: Real fan or corporate shill?

Moonlight is a new vampire detective show coming to CBS this fall. Given that it stars Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls, Veronica Mars) and Sophie Myles ("The Girl in the Fireplace", Doctor Who), it's not *too* surprising that there's a fanbase before the show airs.

Except that the domain name moonlightfans.com was purchased before those cast additions were announced.

Except that the site is run by someone named "Patrick" with no apparent history in fandom. And no LJ friends.

On the one hand, I like that PR companies are recognizing that the fan base is something they should be courting. On the other hand, we're a community, not just a bunch of anonymous people with funny names. Don't leech off the community if you can't even be bothered to find out who we are.

Or possibly I'm wrong and there's a Patrick in fandom who's a big fan of Alex O'Loughlin (who plays the main character on Moonlight and is the only part that hasn't been recast recently) and decided to make his first jump into fandom be this website.

And has insider information that isn't even in the Hollywood Reporter yet.

Opinions?

ETA: Patrick has emailed me and requested that I tell you that he is "not associated with the show." (He would have posted himself, but it looks like anon comments are disabled.)

Something is definitely rotten...I have a hard time believing that the single entry in the moonlightfans journal is anything but advertising copy. Too slick.

No way would a fan entry list that it was a "CBS TV show" twice.

Agreeeeeeed. She was one of the few good things in Underworld, too. Which also had vampires!

(Okay, by "good things" I mean I spent the whole time she was onscreen lusting after her and her corseted boobs, but whatever.)

I'm sorry I don't understand..

What is a PR site?

Okay, that just totally blew their cover. They're trying to be active, in-the-know fans, not, you know, clueless morons.

Come on, people, we need to be asking the important questions. Like whether or not it would be RPF if we shipped him with lonelygirl.

So, um, has anyone tried posting some hardcore pr0n to that community? Either actor RPF or "what I think will happen" fic.

Anyway, if one of them is a corporate comm, LJ may even come down on them. Now that they have "sponsored" communities, I can't imagine that they are happy to give away for free, what others have to pay for?

"If your new to the show, I think there's a large chance you'll enjoy it as well, as it has actors like Jason Dohring, who are very famous and reputable,"

See, if I were CBS, I'd at least want my PR people to be able to write decent English.

This is why I like NBC. They promote Heroes with extra online interactive content and free comics instead of treating the fans as if they have recently been lobotomized or hit repeatedly in the face with a brick.

(Also, Sendhil, Zach, and other actors are cleary at least somewhat aware of fandom's obsession with the gay.)

Well, there's a dude named Patrick Thompson who is basically one of Alex O'Loughlin's co-horts and has been in a few movies with him. Could be him.
