It's official: Brad's leaving
LiveJournal creator leaves as Six Apart fails to spin. "Word is that Brad Fitzpatrick, the founder of LiveJournal and chief architect of Six Apart, is leaving the troubled blog-software company. And the fact that you're hearing about from a gossip blog rather than the transparency-loving company is itself a sign of how deep the problems run."

Uh-oh. Furthermore:

"The only reason that Six Apart management hasn't announced it, the source adds, is that they can't figure out how to spin it. Here, let me help, guys! It's bad. And Fitzpatrick's departure is just the tip of Six Apart's reality-denying iceberg."

ETA: Brad speaks.

Well, but when people ran to him during Strikethrough, he was saying then that he didn't work for 6A anymore. The decision was made before this shit starting happening.

The only other reason why 6A hasn't announced it would be that it isn't true. Though I think I'd respect Brad a tad more if he worked for Google instead.

Also, there is that lovely new 'Sponsored' Pepsi advert theme, when just a few months ago it was promised that even LJ found 'sponsored' things to be ads, and thus Paid users would not have to view them.

Really?

Wow, classy work there, 6A. Since you're pimping yourselves out, how about an Extra-Strength Excedrin theme to help ease the brain pain your "public relations" work gives me?

Is 6A just taking a complete nosedive now? And aren't they the developers of Moveable Type? I don't think MT's newest release is doing that well in terms of bringing in the fans - at least it doesn't seem like they're making a dent in WP's popularity, and if WP's latest multi-user software starts to take off, they might even lose some more clients.

I think I'm sensing a hint of desperation, but that might be the fertilizer coming in from the farms, too.

It's such a pity so much of fandom is on LJ, and that a lot of the communities I read have no chance of moving from there. I may not use my LJ any more, but damned if I'm going to stop reading some of those comms just because 6A are douches.

And wtf is with "erotica = child porn"? Because it really doesn't. First it was OHNOEZ! TEH SLASH! and now it's OHNOEZ! TEH PRON! Or does slash somehow equate to child porn even if the characters are of age?

I'm thoroughly confused.

Mena Trott, Six Apart's president and cofounder, is normally the company's most effective spokesperson. When she can be prevented from swearing, that is.

...

Listening to Trott's swearing fits? Exciting, from a distance.

I got to wondering the other day about Vox, which was supposed to be teh_big_thing for them, as opposed to the cranky grouchy poops on LJ.

I would assume by the relative lack of hype these days that Vox went over like a turd in a punchbowl.
