I share because I care...
I'm sure many have seen it already, but I am still compelled to inflict it on the unaware.

Over at The Agony Booth, the blow-by-blow recap of The Incredibly Ripped-Off Story That Evaded Copyright Infringement And Became A Mixed-Up Movie (more commonly known as TIROSTECIABAMUM) is up.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it's the Eragon review!

My opinion? I enjoyed it when I saw it with my dad. He's so happy to see an action movie, and one like this was pretty enough. There's something fun about seeing films like this with someone who could give less than a damn about continuity or originality.

Then I tried to read the book. Never mind what happened then, suffice it to say if I reach for my red pen while I'm reading it's a bad sign. And I'm not even a teacher.

Anyway. Read the review, it's funny. If you've got time on your hands, read them all. It'll take a while. The recap of Manos: The Hands of Fate is my favorite, big surprise.

lol! I *had* to go download *koffs* the movie after reading the review. I read the books, enjoyed them for the fluff they were, but couldn't stop snorting at some of the most obvious ripoffs XD

Personally, I'm thinking of giving the book another try, with a marking pen. Anytime I see something non-original, I'll draw a line through it.

Imagine how much will be left!

I particularly love the "You know, I've always wanted to go holidaying in New Zealand." caption on the "not at all reminiscent of Lord of the Rings" mountains.

But not as much as I love ""Our headquarters lie in yonder matte painting!""

I'm only just starting on page 3, though, so I bet I'll find something even better before the end.

Hee!

Is it the MST3k reference, or the ripoff thing?

The ref, natch. That's the best movie title ever.

A rare picture of Sauruman the White during his goth-punk days.

"Why me?" says Eragon. Because you're the protagonist and you're a Gary Stu. Any other questions?

"Because that's who Saphira chose," Arya non-answers. Yes, well, given the level of intelligence Saphira has shown so far, that's not very encouraging.

Snerk.

I'll just say it simply and succinctly: Worst. Fantasy flick. Ever.

There speaks someone who has never seen "Wizards of the Lost Kingdom."

Hey, now! "Wizards of the Lost Kingdom" is a very entertaining movie! How dare you disparage the fine acting skills of Bo Svenson?

Yes, what was I thinking? Finest dramatic actor of the age.

And we mustn't forget the very high-quality special effects, particularly in the magical battle royale!

Not to mention the impressive costume design! I'm particularly fond of the big white Chewbacca ripoff homage.

And the excellent fight choreography! Never have I seen such convincing battles.

Ahh, the Agony Booth. I still have their review of Zardoz bookmarked.

I've been hating this book/movie for too long. I'm more upset about taking the setting suns on Tattoine pose than anything.

Cut back to John Malkovich, still dressed like Ming the Merciless, with flames flickering in front of him for "dramatic" effect. And I have to say he looks more apprehensive than evil here. It's almost like he's wondering if he ought to just make a break for it before they make him say his first line of dialogue. Sorry, pal, but you signed up for this (she says, recapping a movie that makes her die inside).

Oh, God, I'm in love. My ribs have been aching since page one.

Wow. I had no idea the movie somehow sucked EVEN HARDER THAN THE BOOK DID and managed to suspend disbelief even further than the near-breaking point the book had already stretched it too.

I think I love Saphira's insta-growth the best. I thought the book was full of enough bullshit having her grow from child to adult size in a matter of weeks, but in this, she's a MAGIC GROWING DRAGON- JUST ADD RAT.

I'm also glad the reviewer mentioned the absolute absurdity of a butcher selling fresh meat in a medieval setting. That was one of the things that bothered me the most about the book (or at least the 300 or so pages I could stomach before I had to throw it down in disgust).

Seems that she missed where Paolini snagged the bit where the bad guy on the giant flying bat battles the good guy while normal people fight below . . . It was Terry Brooks's The Sword of Shannara, I think.

But yes, much hilarity. And depression.
