71 years old and she still could've kicked Rusty's ass.
In 1963, Verity Lambert was both the youngest producer at the BBC and the only female, and she spent her life blazing trails. She died yesterday at the age of 71, one day before the 44th anniversary of the first showing of Doctor Who, and only a couple of weeks before she was scheduled to receive a lifetime achievement award at the 2007 Women in Film and Television Awards. She will be greatly missed.

Rest in peace, Madame L. I hope you, Bill, Patrick and Jon are having a grand old time.

Oh. Oh dear, I am so sorry to hear that.

Rest in peace, Ms Lambert, and thank you.

Puipui: I know you've had issues with me on the Wiki in the past, but I have to thank you for saying what you did. As a DW fan since 1979, I'm certainly aware of what Ms. Lambert brought to the table. The show wouldn't have survived without her patronage and skill.

And I'd like to thank you for bringing this to my attention. I have a regular Tuesday column at a popular general pop-culture website, and one of the traditions is a pre-column In Memoriam for deceased people important to me or to the world. Verity was both, and I'm honored to give her pride of place in my column this Tuesday.

Aw, hell. She was awesome.

She also made that model of 60s batshittery, Adam Adamant Lives!, and Sleepers, one of the last worthy things on Masterpiece Theatre. It just came out on DVD this year (finally!) and is well worth seeking out.

I knew she'd done Adam Adamant Lives!, which I am desperate to see, but I hadn't heard of Sleepers, I'll have to find a copy of it. I think she also produced Jonathan Creek, too, which I adore, and something else really recently with Tamsin Greig in it that I haven't seen, but it's got Tamsin Greig in it so I'll have to find a copy of that eventually, too, I'm sure. Love Soup, I think it's called?
