Eve Online's most recent patch murders Windows. Luckily it's only a graphics patch, and it sounds like only people with HiDef monitors would have installed it, but HA.

And the understandably unhappy forum posts, of course.

I don't see how this is "Ha!" worthy, unless you meant it as in, "Ha! Those idiot programmers!" Because . . . that was an idiotic thing on their part.

What other way would I have meant it?

. . . someone else linked me to it with an argument as to why Mac is superior. :/

Well that's just. . .

I suppose one could make the argument, then, that Vista is actually superior, since this is an XP thing.

Very special, yes.

. . . and as someone that used to run XP but is now running Vista, I prefer Vista. But I wouldn't call one superior over the other . . . every OS has bugs of some sort. Even Linux. :P

Is this one of the 33 misplaced rules, then? "There's a song of it. No exceptions" ?

No, it's probably one of the ensuing rules, somewhere around 67 now or something.

I just like that I can see real-time mini versions of my minimized windows. Very useful when I'm flying somewhere in WoW.

Not the best reason, but possibly the shiniest!

Ha, I like it because I can hover over IM windows and see what the other person has said without needing to open it if, say, I'm busily killing things in NetHack.

(Yes, I'm lame. I'm okay with it. :) )

You like Vista?

I call MS troll. This doesn't make any sense at all.

Would it happen to be the extended version? I've heard that one isn't so bad. Our new comp came with the basic edition and we've quickly come to loathe it over such delightful issues as: persistently uninstalling all and any attached printers, bugging issues with the Windows .igx monitor display (and frequent monitor blackouts in general), excessive dumbing down of OS command setup, and a full load of other fun issues.

It would be the extended edition, yes. It really is quite nice, and it hasn't given me half the headaches that XP did (and yes, I was running XP with SP2).

I've heard about some of the . . . issues with Vista, but I have yet to encounter them. Personally, I like it, though I won't begrudge anyone that doesn't.

I also find I dig Vista. Sure, there are some bugs, but it's nowhere near the mess everyone told me it was. I also have the premium edition though, so maybe it really makes a difference.

Maybe. [shrugs] I dunno, it doesn't prompt me for OMG SECURITY SHIT every time I do anything, as everyone complained it did . . . except when using IE, which I only used to download Firefox. Otherwise, it is very shiny and I prefer it to XP.

What pissed me off was the total lack of communication. When I got up and installed (in Europe), I got a popup warning not to upgrade the graphics AFTER the installation and searched frantically for the boot.ini file, which was luckily there. Much later in the day, there was a popup in the game warning people who had installed before 4 am GMT (the point when the bug was fixed) not to reboot. So the problem had been solved FOR HOURS before they bothered telling people it had been solved, let alone existed. To top it off, they didn't even bother to post the information about the bug on the front page of the site till some time yesterday evening, hours after most people would have needed the information.

Wow, there are actually people who think this is an easily-done mistake.

Wow. Not testing the patcher itself is just a small oversight, I suppose.
