Anyone know how long InsaneJournal will be down?

Any links to IJ lead to an announcement that they're working to move to a better server.

Was this outage something planned/announced ahead of time?

ETA: IJ is now back in business!

I saw it somewhere that they are growing and got another server to keep up with the growing number of people joining. I don't know how long it will be...but I did know this was happening like 2 days ago? I think..lol.

Oooo, okay. I can certainly see why they'd need a better server with the influx. I'm just flailing a little because I want to see what got posted over at merry_smutmas and other IJ comms.

IJ's Twitter is good for staying up to date on what's going on with the server move: http://twitter.com/insanejournal

Sort of, there wasn't a lot of notice but there was some.

As for the influx...

Huh, those stats are pretty interesting to analyze.

11-30: LJ implements flagging. Jump from 75 to 121 the next day.
12-03: LJ is sold to SUP. Jump from 71 to 408.
12-06: GJ News posts "don't make journals here, go to IJ". And they do, increasing from 246 to 2046, wow.
12-09: GJ decreases icons to 10, then proceeds to go down. Journal creation more than doubles to 5357.

It makes for a very pretty graph, really. :)

In comparison, Greatestjournal... GJ's stats are busted, no tracking of account creation after 9-27. Well, that's typical...

I want to be happy for the server move, but I just can't get past how ugly the main page is every time I visit. :-O

Oh dear -- can you change the site scheme you're viewing? I'm using "New Tweak", though I can't now recall if that's the default or something I changed it to when I first set my IJ up. They're none of them gorgeous, but maybe you'll find a scheme you like a bit more than your current one.

Hey - HEY. Look here, lady/man/thing, I came onto this here Internets so I could whine and whine well. I can't have you using this "logic" shit on me to try and improve my completely undramatic situation.

(LULZ, thanks. I actually never noticed that 'til now. >:D)

New Tweak is the default. I like the Honeycomb ones, but white/light text on black hurts my eyes. Brown's ... tolerable. Oi. I hope they come up with more.

Oh, good to know -- since they didn't have previews, I think I just tried them all and took the one that seemed most bearable. More would be great; I'd put in for something neutral and non-whacky-yellow.

If you're using Firefox, you can download Stylish and use it to tweak the CSS.

Does it require knowledge of how to code CSS? I've tried it a few times and it makes my head hurt a little.

You need to have a basic idea of how CSS works, but there's a great tutorial here. Or, you can just download a style here.

Yes, but only a little - you just need to look for colours and play around with them

http://snakeling.insanejournal.com/64286.html#cutid1

The tutorial here I think gives a brief run down of the CSS you need to know in order to make this look the way you want.
